Is your DS Lite cracking up?

Apparently, it's been happening to a lot of people. But Nintendo doesn't seem to think it's a problem, it must be the consumers' fault, the whole lot of them. In fact, the cracked hinge isn't covered under the warranty but if you're lucky enough that your Lite is still under warranty you can have it repaired
for $50!!!

Not cool, Nintendo. Not cool at all.

You probably don't know this, but you're apparently not allowed to hotlink pictures from that site. All that comes up is some generic anti-hotlinking picture. The rest of us are only able to see them by copying down the URL and pasting it in the address bar.

I'm having a little trouble seeing the crack. Unless you mean that line that big line that goes all the way across the hinge, in which case, that's a pretty big deal.

Yeah, it's the line going all the way across the hinge. And those are four different DSes btw.

Several of the people say they took very good care of it, and considering so many people have the same crack in the same place it seems like it has something to do with the way the hinge is made. Most likely it only affected a few production runs so most DSes won't have a problem. Even if it was due to lack of care there's obviously a lack of integrity in that spot which is still something the warranty should cover IMO.

Well, it still could easily be a miscare situation even though the cracks are in the same place. All it means is that the hinge will crack in that way if you do something to it.

BTW, mine was fine until I lost it.

Do the cracks on the hinge at all affect the performance of the machine or are they purely cosmetic?

Do you personally own a DS Lite system that has been affected by this defect?

I don't have a DS Lite at all yet, just read about the problem. And I haven't heard anything about it affecting the performance but I'd imagine it could become a problem later if the cracks get worse.

I was holding off on buying one just to see if problems would come up. I want to import a black one, but not if they are having the same issues as the ones released in the US.

I wouldn't worry too much about the crackage. I mean, you'd have to be a pretty unlucky son of a ***** to have this happen to one you buy.
