Golden Sun I & II Revisited

I never did finish the second Golden Sun. I don't know why, but now I'm getting back to it. I think the thing that I like best about the Golden Sun games is that the dungeons aren't boring. They actually take some thought rather than just moving from room to room. I think many RPGs nowadays are forsaking the lost art that is good dungeon design.

Anyways, I'm going to go back to playing. I just needed a short break and this was on my mind.

I made the mistake of playing through them both one right after the other. Wound up totalling 60 hours altogether. By the time I finished, I was quite tired of the games. Didn't help that the second game became open-ended (except it wasn't) once you got the ship. I hate it when games give me a whole world to explore all at once without telling me where to go. Wound up going to the wrong places so many times that I never had to worry about money again. And yet the final boss still gave me a lot of trouble. The biggest disappointment was the ending of the second game. But since you haven't beaten it, I'll spare you the details.

Still the best music/graphics/dungeon gameplay I've ever seen in a handheld game, and some consoles.

Yeah, I really dig the music, too. And, I agree: the graphics are superb. I like playing it on my Game Boy Player.

Golden Sun is good! Well, the second one is anyway, I never played the first one. Sadly, I got stuck at some place where you are suppose to sneak around. That's it! To GameFAQs!!!

I got bored after about two hours of the second one. It was the exact same game with different characters.

I loved it for the borrowed elements of the Shining Force series, ie. menus and shops and priests.

But I want new Shining Force, damnit. Why, OH GOD WHY, won't they just make another one that I can possibly play?

Golden Sun plays so similarly to Beyond the Beyond that it's amazing to think how close a game straddles from being awesome to completely terrible.

I played them on my GBPlayer, too. Too bad it made the pixellation of the large monsters (especially the final bosses) so obvious.

Hey! What's so bad about Beyon.... Oh, I remember now. It happens to be one of the games in my frisbee collection. That game really sucked.

I really enjoyed the first one until it ended. I was wondering what happen.

It was a cheap way to end the game, just so they could be lazy and come up with a sequel.

Well if the game really did end there, that would've still left two elemental towers unexplored, and unkowns about the effects of lighting the first two towers. I'm under the impression they intended to do a two-part story from relatively early on.

They are wonderful games, but why they chose to split them up is beyond me. I have neither finished lol, I'm at the very last battle in the first one, and I'm stuck in the Hesperia indian town place, because I can't kill the cheif, he's so friggin strong! Anyway, I still think the games are very good.

I figure the story is split because of how it's told. The first is told from Isaac and crew, while the other is told from Felix and crew. That, and they probably had a lot of memory being taken up by graphics and sound alone, that a 60-hour RPG probably wasn't possible on a GBA cartridge.

Either way both games, in my opinion, are amazing.

Have both. TOTALLY beat the first. Best equipment Lv 50 characters and everything. For a long while it was my only GBA game.

But when it came time for the second installment, well, my transfer code just doesn't work. I don't have a link cable either, nor a second gameboy. So whatever. I've yet to play it.

Speaking of Beyond the Beyond. I've got the crazy urge to play it...
