How am I supposed to make a desert look interesting? Only graphics I see useable are cactuses, rocks, and grass clumps. For that matter, what am I supposed to use as a border? ...Without making the place look ugly?
Actually, I have trouble making a lot of places look interesting. A lot of times about the only things I can see to sprucen things up is to add a few rocks and grass clumps, and building interiors wind up as bland as ever. I could probably make them more interesting with use of some custom graphics, but the desert is still a stumper. Can't think of a thing to put in that.

I made the Arizona Desert by using rock faces, and stacking them up on each other, with cactus and grass and rocks to decorate in "Cursed Desires".
You could do a custom tumbleweed graphic, and have that roll across the screen.

i had no borders as deserts are usualy limitness or charactorized by rock walls (such as mountain ranges). just put move events to get to the next strip of desert all the way around, and show gradual changes when you come accross a non desert area like a planes. i choose to turn my desert part into a mini quest.

Well, there's that tile that's supposed to be a building exterior that looks like orange-ish tan rock that can be used for cliffs and stuff, I have a few areas in Demonslayers that does that. I suppose you could use that for cliffs in a desert too. Honestly, there really isn't a lot of stuff to work with in this game and sprucing up areas (custom areas in particular) isn't always easy. Instead of just using stuff from the dungeon tileset, you could use inert events as well if you can spare the scenario memory, some of the objects in the dungeon tileset can be as object events to don't activate or do anything, as an event you can choose between 4 different colors for the object.

I can't really do rock walls on all sides, due to perspective. But I'll probably have trouble trying to explain why I have a problem with seeing the rock walls on the sides and the bottom of the screen due to the "camera" being positioned to see the northern walls, so I'm not gonna bother.
Really, I'm not sure I'm going to keep the place, anyway.
