The playtest option is the last entry in the bottom left section of the main menu.

That means you are lacking one of the following:

A starting location
A starting character
An active character

If you have the place/character done, use them in the "story settings" section.

Are they on the map somewhere? If so, you won't be able to put them in your starting party.
