Trying to figure out the map editor,need a little help

Ok I drawned my map,but I can't preview it.I have to change into V-mode and add some altitude in order to view it.

Can anyone explain to me what is it about?

Go to page 2 of the field editor by pressing R1 and change the field elevation, which is the 2nd choice down on the right. That may be the problem.
