I'm almost 24, and until now, never been to a concert of a band I like. I have went to some Country concerts, because they were free. I thought I'd tell you guys about my first experience at a live alternative rock show.
Some of you guys may have heard of the band "Flyleaf". They are relatively new, they aren't for everybody, but I personally love them.
Fewer of you may know of a place in Flint MI, called "The Machine Shop". The Machine Shop is a Rock Lounge where unsigned bands, and major label bands go between tour dates to perform for (usually) a low price. Bands like Taproot, Mushroomhead, Nonpoint, (and more) play there quite a bit.
Flyleaf was scheduled to play The Machine Shop on the 28th, and tickets were only $10. I thought what the hell, and bought the tickets. Me and my wife had a great time.
Four bands played total. Flyleaf was the main attraction, they played last, but had three bands open for them. (Dizmas, Keating, and Boy Hits Car).
The Machine Shop is not big. In fact, on a lucky day you may be able to cram 700 people in there. (With no room to walk). Imagine being in a small room with extremely loud music and crazy people, and that's what the Machine Shop is. There are no seats. You aren't designated to stay in one place, each ticket you buy, you can go anywhere you want. You can go right up to the stage if you want, but you have to be able to handle being thrown around a bit.
Dizmas and Keating weren't the best bands I have ever heard, but they do have talent. When Boy Hits Car took the stage, the crowd started to get more into the night. In fact, Boy Hits Car was crazy. The lead singer (at one point) was hanging upside down off the rafters, still screaming away.
As I said, Flyleaf took the stage last. They were the reason we came there. They started playing their littler known songs to warm up the crowd, and then they played their latest single (Fully Alive) and the band, and the crowd, went crazy. The guitar players were in the air at least 60% of the time, it seamed. They banged on their instruments like they had a score to settle, while Lacey (the vocalist) screamed her lungs out.
By the time we got out of there, my ears were ringing for a half hour after the show. Flyleaf made sure to turn up their volume higher than the other bands, I thought for sure the speakers would have been blown by the time they left.
