    Your favorite film scores

post 'em! Here's mine...I posted links to samples in the titles.

The Rock - With 3 composers in the credits (Hanz Zimmer, Harry Gregson-Williams, & Nick Glennie-Smith), I don't know who is mostly responsible, but the end result is awesome. This is the best action theme soundtrack I've ever heard, even better than the MGS theme, which is very similar...which makes sense because Gregson Williams did that as well. Just listen to "Rock House Jail" and "In The Tunnels" for a good sampling of the soundtrack. "Jade" is a very nice interlude too.

Speed - Here's a surprisingly awesome score. Try listening to this while driving and not speeding up. "Main Title" is a good sampling.

Dragonheart - Randy Edelman makes the most memorable themes since John Williams, but they're much more emotional compared to Williams's poppy scores. Most consider this to be Edelman's finest, narrowly beating out Last Of The Mohicans.

Glory - I dare you to listen to "Charging Fort Wagner" and not get chills, especially if you've seen the movie. It's probably my favorite movie score "single" I've ever heard. Oh, and the whole soundtrack is great too, even if it is the guy who scored Titanic.

Gladiator - Hanz Zimmer really knocked it out of the ballpark with this one. Really great stuff here.

Pirates of the Carribean - WOW! Klaus Badelt, welcome to the bigtime. Fantastic blood pumping score with great memorable themes throughout. Do your self a favor, follow the link, and listen to "He's a Pirate," "One Last Shot," and "Skull & Crossbones."

    Empire Strikes Back
    Amelie
    ...

Honestly, it's hard to come up with some. Most film scores might have one or two interesting/memorable pieces, but the rest are usually humdrum filler that doesn't stand up apart from the movie.

Listen to the Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay soundtrack (somehow) then let the Pirates of the Caribbean comparisons fly! I think composers of both titles hail from the Hans Zimmer school of film scoring.

      Anyway! Very nice selections.

Cowboy Bebop: The Movie - Yoko Kanno Yoko Kanno YOKO KANNO.

Batman Begins - Hans again! The car chase and training montage themes rule but it's the final track "Lasiurus" that gets me brooding on rooftop gargoyles.

FF7: Advent Children - Shut up, the music's cool especially "Destiny II."

Howl's Moving Castle/Spirited Away/Princess Mononoke - All Joe Hisaishi, all recognizable. Fantastic soaring fantasy themes drenched with nostalgia (Spirited), power (Mononoke) and romance (Howl).

Ghost in the Shell/Innocence - Haunting stuff like "Birth of a Cyborg" and "Reincarnation" are cool but the jazzy Kimiko Itoh themes from Innocence make me lonely and aching for a cigarette. Follow Me!!!!

Blade Runner - More jazzy noir. Vangelis' main theme is so so SO great.

      L.A. Confidential - The main theme's terrific.

When I was but a lad I spent a few years working as an usher at a movie theatre. We would have to wait for people to clear out of the houses before we could start cleaning them, so I saw the last few minutes of many movies over and over again. One of them, Shakespear in Love, ends with the heroin washing up on a deserted island. There is a long shot of the beach as she walks away from camera and the credits start to role. During this shot there is this music that has haunted me for all my days. It's mornful and yet exciting. And it constaly builds and buiolds and vuilds. Each mesure adds more and more to the emotional impact of the song. Unfortunetly, it never really climaxes. But it has always given me goosebups and, for me, will always be one of the greatest peices of music composed for a film.

          Escape from New York.

Also, Escape from L.A. and all John Carpenter movies.

Oh, James Horner is a pretty cool dude. I like the Mask of Zorro soundtrack, at least.

Yeah, I've wanted that theme for a while.

I usually don't pay a lot of attention to the score of a movie, but a few that really grabbed me were:

The Untouchables, especially during that opening title sequence.

Sin City-It's like sex via saxophone, thank you.

Pretty much all of Quentin Tarantino's films, but especially Reservoir Dogs and Kill Bill Vol. 1.

The Crow-My favorite being The Cure's "Burn".

The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly-Ecstasy of Gold being the high point, but, my god, the score never stops kicking ass.
So you're a fish out of water...
              Keep swimming.
              What else can you do?

I've never really thought about it, but I do pay attention to the music in movies a lot as long as it forced too far in the background. I'd say offhand I've enjoyed the scores of most Disney animated features (The Lion King of course being my fave). I also liked the music in Superman I. And there's also Pokemon 2 and 3 (I also saw the first one, but it's been so long and I refuse to watch it again). And of course, there's Star Wars.
"What if like...there was an exact copy of you somewhere, except they're the opposite gender, like you guys could literally have a freaky friday moment and nothing would change. Imagine the best friendship that could be found there."

Uh, I believe the Crow's original score was done by Graeme Revell (SP?). I have a copy of that and the OST. The score is very beautiful, but difficult to find copies of compared to the OST.

My favorite scores are by Danny Elfman, and include his works for Pee-Wee's big adventure, Batman and Beetlejuice. I prefer his older works, most of his modern stuff seems to repeat pass successes (not to say that his new work is bad, it's just not as appealing to me personally). He has some compilations of his work (I think there are 2 CDs) called "music for a darkened theater."

Although it's now a kinda lame, dated movie, "Sneakers" has a some great pieces, especially the tune titled "Cosmo, old friend."
                  Eat Smello.

                    Mine are easy.

It's either the Soundtrack to Meet The Feebles {Peter Jackson's BEST Film EVER!!!} or the Soundtrack to Cannibal! The Musical

Both are full of Wonderful and Silly songs!

                    MOO!

                      Prince of Egypt
                      Crimson Tide

See, I was purposefully leaving out anime movies. Because then it'd just be a list of every movie Yoko Kanno had ever composed for.And also because I thought this was a more Western film-based topic. But anyhow:

Cowboy Bebop: Knockin' on Heaven's Door
Escaflowne the Movie: A Girl in Gaia
                        Turn A Gundam movies
                        Macross Plus the Movie
                        Angel's Egg
                        Ghost in the Shell
                        Innocence
                        Jin-Roh
Spirited Away (didn't care much for Mononoke or especially Howl's Moving Castle)
                        Ashura-jo no Hitomi
                        Akira
The Lord of the Rings trilogy (Got to see it performed live!)

WHO KNOWS, MAYBE MORE TO COME LOL

Great selections, everyone. I totally was going to include Princess Mononoke but I forgot. Joe Heisashi is a cool composer. TIGAH UPPAH!!! :-p

Elfman is great too, I have his Music for a Darkened Theater 1 & 2.

And Amelie, those piano songs are haunting.

I also forgot to mention Dark City and REQIUEM FOR A DREAM. I wish I could find all those damn remixes that have been done for it...including the techno one and the bombastic orchestral one, both heard in ytmnd's and LOTR game commercials.
