Re: 2 or 3
RPGM2.
RMXP is the most powerful of the RPGMs, but a lot of that power lies in the built-in RGSS (which let's you use the Ruby programming code; yes, that's real programming). RPGM3 isn't very powerful at all, and I consider it the least powerful of the RPGMs. RPGM2 is the most powerful of the console RPGMs, and though there are some really confusing options (though you generally don't need to use them), you can use pretty much all that power without a whole lot of experience in programming, or none at all (though learning it would be a bit more difficult in that case)."What if like...there was an exact copy of you somewhere, except they're the opposite gender, like you guys could literally have a freaky friday moment and nothing would change. Re: 2 or 3
RMXP is the only other US release of RPGM that's 2D. The default battle system is first-person view like RPGM1 and RPGM2 (more like RPGM1; better quality) and there are no default world map graphics.
RPGM2 doesn't technically have a "tutorial", but pressing start on each option tells you about what it does. A few descriptions don't explain well enough, but you can figure a lot of stuff out by trial and error anyway."What if like...there was an exact copy of you somewhere, except they're the opposite gender, like you guys could literally have a freaky friday moment and nothing would change. Re: 2 or 3
For noobs I would suggest RPGM3. Very easy to use, you could probably make a full game in one afternoon. The limitation can be quite annoying, though. I for one use RPGM2, which have very few limitations. VFX editor alone is well worth the money. I hope you find the one that is right for you.I had to change accounts. There's no need to be misleading. If you want a field in your game or you want your game to be playable, it'll take a lot longer than a single afternoon. For noobs I would suggest RPGM3. Well, as I've mentioned before, Series 1 took me at least 150-200 hours to program and playtest, but there is a LOT to that game...it's not simple by any stretch. Maybe some "go to the cave and rescue the princess" game might be made in that little time, but anything a bit more complex is gonna take a while.

Re: 2 or 3
3 is extremely easy yet incredibly limited
2 is incredibly free and powerful, yet extremely difficult (to master)
3 also has prettier graphics.
depends on your level of commitment. i'm too lazy to figure out rpgm2, if someone walked me through it, then maybe.
once you understand how limited you are in 3, you can make a great game at any rate. I think your imagination far precedes any rpg maker's limitations.
but rpgm2 is the better game, overall.

Re: 2 or 3
my brother made a joke game on rpgm3, where you control a gorilla, who enters a dugeon, is told by a strange looking dude (used the pop art avatar for Good Prince, i think) who tells him to go an adventure, and offers him several strange warriors to help him, the gorilla refuses, so he walks the dungeon alone, where there is a treasure chest. should you interract with it, you will have to face a behemoth monster who will most assuredly kill you.Originally posted by DraygoneRMXP is the only other US release of RPGM that's 2D. and that's the end.
