Haven't drawn a thing in months.

My sig and avatar were the last things I did a while ago.

Still just doing illustrations, but I did this real quick to test out my new tablet. It's small, but awesome!
Oh, and he's supposed to be holding a wooden sword.

I need to learn how to draw... I wanted to basically my whole life but could never do anything very good.

Since you seem to be a good artist, do you have any tips for me to practice drawing?

Some people will tell you to draw circles. I say, skrew that, just keep drawing stuff and you're bound to get better sometime. Actually, early on when I restarted learning how to draw, I started off with a dragon (yeah, great place to start). The first time was pretty crappy, but I redrew it 6 or 7 times. By then, it looked decent, and I moved on to other stuff. And over time, I got better. Though, I think my skill is at a standstill until I become motivated enough to add extra detail.

Well, I have drawn pictures of the Master Sword sitting in the little stand the Link retrieves it from many, many times, and I have gotten REALLY good at it.

So yeah Draygone, I think your meathod sounds good.

          O_o
I'm still trying to find my own style. Plus I know having drawn something like this, I'm gonna draw crap for the next while until I stop again.

This is what I started with. Circles and lines.

I didn't say anything about lines, dude.

A good illustrator uses nothing but circles. And don't use those bastard ovals, either.

So, you're saying that drawing the lines to help build the skeletal frame are wrong and should never be used?

If I had made conscious effort to learn to draw I probably wouldn't have gotten anywhere. I just drew whatever I felt like drawing at the time I think that your art will be more imaginative in the long run. I hate seeing people who are amazing but their drawings look like something from a "how to draw manga" book and all they draw are people who look like they hang out at the mall.

Your stuff is looking better every day. I'd just work on the elbows and hips.

As for the "drawing circles" thing, smurtle is probably messing around. Draygone's comment is a little goofy. Without an understanding of the basics of form and structure, it's often difficult to advance your skills or develop a style. Breaking the human form down into basic shapes/lines helps you better understand how those shapes move in relation to one another, and also helps the artist with anatomy, foreshortening, and perspective.

When I started drawing these, I did draw the actual anatomy first (minus the WANGS), then drew the clothing over that.

Elbows, point taken, but the hips I wanted to keep kinda small and flat looking on men.

But it's certainly a lot better the the old burly stuff I did in the past (blame that on old inspirations on early Street Fighter II concept artworks).

Those pants on the second one really bug me. You should look at some reference pictures to see how cloth hangs and folds, instead of just drawing random lines.

There is no right or wrong way to draw.*

My favorite drawings are those done by very young children, because they're from a totally different perspective They're not bothing to stick to rules and formulas. They have something to draw, and it usually comes out so ****ed up it's amazing.

Alexa Kitchen, who I just stumbled upon, got a comic book published at the age of seven. It's ridiculous how well of a story teller she is at this age.
