Daniel's Quest III is ready to play!!! :)

I created Daniel's Quest I and Daniel's Quest II for RPG Maker 1. Not that anyone on here would know that though, since I never got a Dex Drive, so I never downloaded them on any website. Besides, since they were games I made for a friend of mine, they were full of inside jokes and quirky humor only friends can relate to.

Now, however, since getting RPG Maker 3 and a Action Replay Max drive, I have the chance to make a game that many people can enjoy since I have the chance to upload it on the Pavilion when I finish. I thought I'd just share a little about it to get some feedback. You can see by my avatar that I've been enjoying using Paint to make a copy of the world map.
    ----------------------------------------------------------------
Well, it's for RPG Maker 3
    It's called Daniel's Quest III

It starts at Daniel's house in the middle of the night. As Daniel dreams about his adventures of years gone by, he and his wife (and baby) are all awoken when there is a loud pounding on the door. Daniel goes to the door to find that its a messenger from King Donald (the King from Daniel's Quest II) sent to request Daniel's presence in the throneroom. In the dead of night, the messenger guides Daniel to King Donald's court. King Donald tells Daniel that the Stone of Destiny has been stolen. He goes on to say that other things have gone awry as well and that Daniel had better check with the Reverend of Nevernear to find out more. After receiving some basic supplies and money, Daniel is sent back to Nevernear, where the adventure begins.

In Nevernear, Daniel learns about the Stone of Destiny and its significance. He also learns from the Reverend that some creature has ripped several pages out of the Holy Book of Eternity. Daniel's mission is clear, return the pages to the book of Eternity and find the the Stone of Destiny. Pretty cut and dry, right. There is a slight problem, Daniels wife, Christy, doesn't want him gallavanting around Nevernear to solve the problems for the King. She wants him home with her, his wife of just one year, and their new baby, Victoria. After Daniel promises her that he will always remember his vows to her and come by to visit her often, she reluctantly agrees to let him go....

Will Daniel be able to recover the stone of Destiny?
Will he have to choose between his family and his world of Nevernear?
Will the vows he made at his wedding hold true to the end?
Why has the volcano begun to smoke?
What's with the erasers in the schoolhouse?
    Who is Samuel the Sage?
And those Oldenpots. What might be hidden inside?

All these questions and more will be answered when you play as Daniel Haney in Daniel's Quest III.

    FEATURING:
    Optional side quests
Well-organized field arrangement - in case you're tired of just running and running and running to get from here to there
    Secret bonuses
    Selectively placed battles
Help available (just send me a p.m.)
    Correct spelling
A special feature you'll have to see when you play
and more, still in the works

I'm not going to be done with it for a while, but I've got more time in these next few weeks to work on it, so I'm going to try and make some good headway.

This isn't an epic, but I want it to be an enjoyable, balanced game. There are parts that are cliche, which is fine with me. There are parts that are serious. There are parts that are total nonsense. I'm having a great time making it. I hope to have it finished by contest time.

    Progress so far.
    86.3% memory capacity
9 fields (3 main areas really - One area (Nevernear) is six duplicate fields with a variety of events in different sections - The second area is two duplicate fields with different events in different areas- The last area is its own little world)
10 dungeons (several of which connect the duplicate fields to each other)
13 towns (2 main towns really - Others have been shrunk quite a bit to minimize unnecessary walking)
    62 people
    24 Storytellers (so far)
22 monster parties (these need a lot more tweaking)
    70 items

Anything you'd like to say is welcome.

If the "summer" contest ends up with a final submission date of November 1, then I'm definitely going to try for that.

I know that after you played my game that proper spelling and grammar is important to you, as it is to me. This is ALWAYS a major plus in any RPGM game. So far, it sounds good. I look forward to playing it when it comes out. I played a few RPGM3 games, and the only one I could really enjoy was Whispers in the Woods. The rest were either boring, redundant, or too full of spelling errors which made me not want to play. Good job, Pagerron!

Yeah, but even some published RPGs (Shining Force II come to mind...) have spelling errors. Those companies blame it on translation errors or some such grabage. Even FF7 (Helletic Hojo, anyone?) has mistakes and just because some Oriental person can't spell in English doesn't mean that the game itself is any less enjoyable, right?

Besides, if I had to worry about 100% correct spelling there would be like a 2nd grade feel to the game's dialouge. I'm not even sure if I spelled dialouge correct or not...

Yes but we don't have chinese sweatshop workers translating our games do we? So naturally there should be less mistakes if people take their time and put effort into making their games.

Believe it or not, people really do deduct points for obvious spelling/grammar errors.

You're actually pretty close. Just switch the "g" and "u" around and you'd have it.

                  Re: Daniel's Quest III

I've updated the info in my original post. I'm trying to use this thread as one way to motivate myself to continue forward in the creation process. I have the finished game in my mind. It's just a matter of pressing forward and getting it into the memory card. Sometimes, I need a little kick in the butt to do it.

I've created 11% more (as far as memory capacity is concerned) and added several people, items, and monsters (monster parties). Today, I'm planning on spending a couple hours on it. Little by little.

Well, you wouldn't know it, seeing as I've only completed 11% more since the end of June, but I really would like to enter it in the Extravaganzicon contest that begins Nov. 1st. I'm definitely trying for that. Worst case scenario, it'll be done by Christmas, but I really want to be done by contest time.

                          Re: Daniel's Quest III

This thread needed an update. It's been a while. I've completed over 19% more since my last post. The last few weeks have been very productive.

I've been finding it easiest to write things down in a notebook when I have some free time and just add what I've written down to the game.

If I turn on the game with no plan of anything to do, I just sit there messing around (doing nothing really) for hours sometimes...walking around in fields, fiddling around with battles, etc. But if I have a plan, then I sit down and hammer it out. That seems to work much better.

I don't know if I'll be able to have this done by contest time, but I'm going to try. Playtesting it and debugging is going to be the challenge. I could submit something by contest time, but it might be a mess, or I could just keep working on it slowly and have it ready for Christmas, or best case scenario, I could keep working on it, playtest and debug AND have it ready for contest time. I'm hoping for the third option.

                              Re: Daniel's Quest III

Sounds great, and I'm not just saying that cause my (real) name is Daniel.

I really like how your teaser asks, "Will the vows he made at his wedding hold true to the end?" It get's me wondering how this is incorporated into the adventure.

It's the same with me--whenever I sit down without a set plan, I always do nothing but fiddle with fields and monsters. I get most of my good work done during the week, because I think about and plan out something to do while at work all day long, then when I come home I get a lot done, even when I only have a free hour or two.

So, man, plan as much as you can and set aside time to do specific tasks in the game, and that would be great if you could get this ready (debugged and all) by the contest (it's coming up pretty fast, now).
My kind of life’s no better off
If I’ve got the map or if I’m lost.
