    Harry freaking Potter

For some reason everyone (or just the pricks I hand out with) is obsessed with Harry Potter and I don't understand why. Then a friend of mine sent me a strange little animated video. Yeah, maybe I get it now... http://www.just2pale.com/movies/harrypotter.html
It made me laugh in and embarrising way, is that normal?

They're very well-written books, but obsession is probably taking it too far.

Actually they really aren't that well written. The fact that they are popular (mostly with children) doesn't mean they are well written.

It's like saying Dr. Suess is an accomplished articulate author that wrote in depth stories. The HP books just have games and little hidden things in it like the mirror of Erised is Desire spelled backwards.

I've read them and think they're well-written. If you think they're not, that's your thing.

I'm surprised to see you say that, seeing as the vast majority of critics seem to feel that they are extremely well-written.

For that matter, they also feel that Dr. Seuss is also very well-written for a children's author.

Also: saying something is well-written isn't the same as saying that it's in-depth. There is a difference between popular fiction and philosophical writings.

Remember: Dickens was criticized as being a populist and a hack when he was writing, so watch what you criticize.

I dunno, I just feel those critics are bieng paid off to say good things about it. The books just feel to me like a clump of different stories put into one smaller story. I dunno, to each his own I guess.

I thought Harry Potter was lame and stupid after I was a kid and read Chamber of Secrets and was very bored with it. Then I was all "It's stoopid cause it's popular" and stuff.

And then I saw Goblet of Fire and it blew me away, so I like Harry Potter.

But The Sneetches and The Lorax.

I'm a Harry Potter fan. I ignored it until I had a chance to buy the first four books for $2. Couldn't pass up that deal. And I loved them. I didn't even mind paying regular price to but the rest of them. And the DVDs.

So what do you prefer, Red Dragon?

To his credit, it is tiring to read how much of a genius/activist/slut Hermione is.

I've never read a sentence or watched a minute of Harry Potter.

So you're basically accusing the entire field of book criticism of massive corruption, including the London Times and the New York Times, two of the most respected papers in the world? Ok, then.

I imagined Mandark from Dexter as I read your POST.

And I wouldn't rule the NYTimes out of corruption or lousy writing but that's a discussion for a different day/topic lolz
