help me quit smoking cigarettes. please?

    hello, rpg maker community.

recently, I quit smoking cigarettes. (yes, I've said that before.)

this time, I'm trying to actually go for it. today will be the 5th day I have gone without any nicotine.

needless to say, I have been a little stressed out.

I know quitting smoking cold turkey is a very difficult thing to do. I was wondering if there are others here who have smoked and quit, maybe, I could get some advice or something.

I don't really like the idea of using gum or a patch... but I don't won't to just give in to my addiction and smoke another cigarette either.

any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Every time you want a smoke, punch yourself in the sack instead.

There is no evidence to support this theory but I have a good feeling about it.

Try substituting another, positive behavior when you feel like you want a smoke.

Go out and exercise whenever you feel like smoking. Just take a walk or something, it can really help.

This technically isn't me, but I think it's a good story.

My Dad quit smoking cold turkey, cuz he's the kind of guy that is unstoppable once he sets his mind on something (read: stubborn ).

He told me that at the time, he wrote a list of reasons why quitting would be beneficial and he looked at it every day, and that really helped.

I'm not sure if that helps or not, but figured I'd give it a shot.

See, one of those reasons could be "I can stop punching myself in the sack".

Chewing gum helps some people, I have heard.

Not that I'd know how effective that really is, but, hey, it could work for you.

Just make sure you tell everybody that you have officially completely quit. That way if anyone witnesses you going for a cigarette they can shame you into submission. This doesn't help if you spend all your time alone though. You could also plan some kind of reward for yourself at the end of the week if you've still not given in. Rewards always work better than punishment.

thank you for the advice, I truly appreciate it. reading this has made me feel better.

I tried using something as a replacement... I chewed on a pen for a little while but got bored. I also went to the gas station to purchase sometihng to occupy me. It was incredibly tempting to buy a pack, or simply ask someone for a smoke, but I bought a caramel apple pop instead.

I got some strange looks, but I'm proud of myself, and I think that is what's important.

I'll try to get more excersize as well.

                    peace
