    $270.00

So I go to the bank to cash a $362.something check, and the bank teller inputs it as $632.something. I was like, "shiiit" and walked out of the bank, not knowing whether to smile or go back and say something.

It's been over a week, and they haven't noticed anything. I've been careful not to spend that $270, incase they take it back. I think I'm good, but I can't be sure.

I'm just wondering if anybody's been in a situation like this with the bank and what they did...

    Or any other comments/suggestions.

i've had the opposite, where i deposited a thousand dollars and they lost it. that experience leads me to DEMAND that you keep that money.

One time my bank deposited my paycheck into somebody elses account by accident. That sucked.

It was the bank's fault. If you were to spend that money you couldn't be held responsible. If it's still in your account when they realize the mistake though they might take it out. So spend, spend, spend.

I've experienced this. I think the one month rule applies.

Oh, good, now I don't have to feel so guilt about reading this topic.

On the downside, you're poorer than I am.

I dont know. It may be the bank's fault, however, he did realize the mistake and had ample opportunity to correct it. I can see how he could be held responsible for spending money that he noticed was not his (even though the bank teller did indeed foul up herself).

But think about it in terms of this principle-

If he had be shorted his check, leaving him lacking of funds rightfully his, he would've spoken up on the spot (for obvious reasons). Why do we only speak up when we are the ones denied our rightful dues (...for obvious reasons)?

                          ****, I would've done the same though.

Seriously, this thread is posted on Something Awful a lot, and not once has the money ever been left in the account.
