    Super Robot anatomy

I'm working on a 3D model of Mazinger Z and I don't know what I should do for the elbows and knees. Should I make joints like on an action figure so that there is nothing that should deform or should I put some kind of coil looking thing in there that will deform?

Here is my model after a couple of hours of work. If it turns out well, I think I'll make Shin Getter Robo or Mazinkaiser.

If you make it in seperate geometry pieces (one for hand, one for body) like if it were pieces, it would deform like a toy would, which is probly the best bet for a robot. (dont build it all out of one geometry)

However, if you are building a human, it would be best combining everything)

    If that made any sense?

I am making it all in separate pieces. I was thinking instead of using bones I could just use the pivotpoints for a rig. I'm just wondering what would work and look cool for the knees and elbows. I could use bones to deform a coil or use the pivot points to turn some joints.
