What's the port on the bottom for? Anyone?

I believe it was for the 64DD, which never came out in the US and I'm not sure if it was used much in Japan either. Kind of like the SNES that had a port for the CD drive that was going to be added to it, until that CD drive became the PlayStation. -

IMO, the add-on seemed very promising, and I would've liked to have seen some of the stuff in the would've-been list happen. Too bad Nintendo waited way too long to release it.
