Trying to figure out the attack and defense system

Is it anything like 2nd edition advanced D&D

where your strength is one of the factors for determineing what you can hit
as well as the damage you do
and your dexterity affects your armor class?

    example
i have a character with these stats
    strenght 10
    agility 10
    defense 10

than i'm fightijng a monster with the exact same stats
now how do i figure out what i can and can't hit with those stats
as well as the damage out put
    per point of

    strenght
    agility
    defense

any help would be greatful hopefully this makes some sence

With exactly equal stats, the character and the monster will do 0 damage to each other, sometimes 1 point, as it's not always 100% exact. Damage is generally equal to strength + weapon attack bonus - defense + armor physical defense bonus.

so the higher the strength the easyer it is to attack the other
than also the higher the strength and weapon attack the more damage is done ?
so than does agility affect defense than ?

thanks for the input it has been most helpful so far

No, I am pretty sure that strength and defense are only for damage. I believe that agility affects accuracy and evasion, someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Agility affects accuracy and evasion, and to a somewhat limited extent, the order of attack (large differences between the values seem to make the most difference.)
