    Eve of Sadness Is Here

(Valk, I tried to reach you on AIM to delete my older EOS topics but you weren't online).

Anyway after several months of hard effort, Eve of Sadness is here.

The release date in your sig doesn't quite synch up with current events.

Right. I over-exaggerate release dates just in case.

          ERROR in
          action number 1
          of Other Event: Room Start
          for object __newobject306:

          Trying to use non-existing surface.
That's what I got in the first few minutes of playing. Might want to go through and check for more instances of this.

That's wierd, it worked fine for me and two other people. Do you have at least 256MB of RAM, and Direct 3D capable video card drivers?

One more question, did the game actually load at all? Or did it fail during gameplay? If so, what room?

It worked for me. If I wasn't so busy catching up on all the RPGs I have been neglecting to play I would play through it. Of course I also died on the first encounter as I am not so good with a keyboard, since I'm used to console games.

Of course there are also some minor collision bugs, like being able to walk into the trees on one of the first screens on the planet, and some while walking near the edge of some boards (you can walk to the edge but can't go up/down while right next to it). Other than that I didn't notice any errors.

Of course my system had 1GB of ram and a Geforce FX5600 so no hardware deficiencies there.

Re: Eve of Sadness Is Here

                Thanks for playing, regardless.

I think the problem that he experienced was related to D3D special effects. While this is primarily a 2D game, screen transitions are handled in 3D. You won't notice these effects all the time, but when you warp to the planet, or to the world map, you will see a nice 3D effect. On the downside to this, simple fading in and fading out is also handled by Direct3D.

                Bare Minimum System Requirements:
                192MB of RAM
                D3D Video Card
                32MB Video Memory
Manufacturer Video Card Driver for your video card (NO Microsoft drivers!!! Especially with NVidia)

                Reccomended System Requirements:

                256MB RAM
D3D Video Card with 64-128MB Video Memory

                Testing:
Game was tested on a 1ghz PC with a 64MB Nvidia PCI Card, drivers from Nvidia.com. Windows XP, unfortunately I was unable to test with any other Operating System. I've played through this particular version 8-10 times beginning to end.

I am testing the game right now, but so far, no errors.

By the way, Joystick support is enabled in this release.

I forgot to mention: Early builds of Windows 2000 don't have DirectX installed by default, so if you have an old Windows 2000 version, you will need to install DirectX first.

How do you figure out what requirements of your game are?

Re: Eve of Sadness Is Here

Two ways. First, if I run the game on a system with 192MB of RAM, and it runs poorly, I can guess that it should be about 256MB.

More importantly, the creator of Game Maker himself said that DirectX is important as are the drivers from the manufacturer for your video card.

That pretty much sums it up.

So it was simply testing it on a lesser system? I unfortunately don't have that option.

Yeah, pretty much. I usually try to test on the weakest system possible if I can. This time I wasn't able to test it on a 500mhz PC like I was last time.
