Thank Goodness I dont have any X-box games...(Backwards compatibility 360 topic)

It seems that 360 will no longer update it's list of backwards campatible games.

    WTF

Kinda find it dumb they would stop...

dumb rumor, was recently shot down by microsoft (lost the link, but I'll find it). they're not going to stop for a long time. all that they're saying is that eventually, they WILL stop. which they have to do at some point. no way should they be expected to write tweak the emulator for every X box game.

Yet, somehow they found the time to emulate crap like Barbie Horse Adventures, Kabuki Warriors, and BMX XXX.

Probably cuz they don't use these "special, unique" features of the xbox hardware that they're talking about.

Those games had poo art and simple programming, thus why I think they where the first to get pushed through.

I think its kind of dumb that the system wasnt backwards compatible from right out of the box...its kind of the standard for systems these days anyways.

thankfully, most of the games that i plan to get for the Xbox again, are in the backwards compatible list, but it does upset me that PGR2 isnt in that list, as i've heard that PGR3 isnt as good, but i have played the demo of PGR3 and like it.

XBox games I'd actually care about (re)playing in the future:

                Riddick
                Ninja Gaiden
                Jet Set Radio Future
                KotOR

I didn't finish Shenmue yet so I dunno if I feel INCLINED to get Shenmue 2.

I only own two Xbox games: Panzer Dragoon Orta and Sphinx & The Cursed Mummy.

Orta isn't on the list. Neither is Conker (which I don't own, but I really enjoyed).

If I ever get a 360, I'm gonna wind up keeping my old Xbox. Normally I get rid of my old systems since I wouldn't be using them anymore.

Why the heck didn't they properly make it backwards-compatable like everyone else?

Because then they couldn't force people to use their online download service, the hardware wouldn't fit inside the system, and they wouldn't have been the first to release a next-gen console by a year if they had tried for 100% compatibility out-of-the-box.

I read somewhere the way the PS1 and PS2 were designed made it easy to emulate the hardware on a single chip but the XBox was built in a way that wouldn't have allowed that so they basically would've had to a lot of extra stuff to the 360 for hardware BC. The price and the fact they learned from making XBox too big they decided to go with software emulation which they later realized is more problematic than they foresaw.

The original system and the 360 have different chipsets or something, like xbox is ATI and 360 is nVidia?

I'll never touch KotOR again but I'd definatly like to go through JSRF and the other sega games on the 360 so I can pack away or sell my original system.

That's because PC games are coded to work on different hardware configurations, console games are just coded for that console's hardware.

EDIT: I just read on GameSpot the reason they didn't do hardware BC is that MS didn't buy the intellectual property rights of the Xbox hardware. Intel owns the cpu and Nvidia owns the gpu.
