    King's Field is dead

Mark stopped by the agetec forum to post this rather upsetting news
    1. Agetec will not publish King's Field PSP and as far as I know, it has not been picked up by a different publisher.

    2. As of right now there is ZERO plans for a new King's Field for any system.

    3. There is nothing being devolved that resembles anything like King's Field, Shadow Tower, ect... i.e. First Person RPG.

I know most gamers hated the series without ever actually giving it a chance, so if any of those people are reading this, THANKS. To those who sat down and let themselves get pulled into the series immersive and mysterious world, this is a great tragedy. I know a few people here will miss the series a lot, me, snarf, and fushigi for certain.

    Re: King's Field is dead

Although I hated Eternal Rings (or whatever the KF spinoff was called) I enjoyed Kings Field since I'm a fan of Ultima Underworld and Arx Fatalis (other first person rpg's).

I didn't even know there was a Kings Field for the PSP. That was probably the best platform for a new KF game so this is pretty disappointing. THANK U GAMESPOT AND OTHER MAINSTREAM REVIEWERS! *thumbs up*

p.s. which character and which game where you an npc in?

I don't recall ever seeing a King's Field game on shelf.

It wasnt a mainstream title. for example, I never saw magic pengel in stores either, only the copy agetec sent me.

My local game store has both the original King's Field(huge PSX box and all), and Magic Pengel. I've been interested in Magic Pengel for a while.

Yea, first person done right really enhances the atmosphere. I think I was in middle school when the first King's Field came out and I could only play it for a few minutes at a time because it would creep me out. It took me a year to beat it.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but can't you play Elder Scroll games in first person? I know you can play Morrowind in first person, and I'm pretty sure that you can play Oblivion the same way (in fact, for Morrowind first person was the default view). So first person RPGs haven't gone COMPLETELY away.

While i never could get into them, i always bought a copy. I bought the 2 KF games that came out on the PSOne (or i bought KF2 twice, not sure), i bought the Ancient City...but never played it.I can get it at Fry's so i might pick it up again, but it was hard to get into because of the slow pace of the game.

I got Magic Pengel in an EBGames, and then saw it in GameStop for cheaper. That stunk.

Elder Scrolls was always a first person rpg and it wasn't until Morrowind (the third, technically the fourth if you count Redguard Adventures... which I don't) that you got a 3rd person and even then playing in 3rd person ruined the fun (it was really only for exploration purposes or to show off your character).

But the thing is, there's only 1 console first person rpg I can think of... and that's Wizardry. Arx Fatalis is also out, but the pc version is better. Kings Field is really the only console first person rpg available but NOT ANYMORE HOHO

no other RPG, first person or otherwise can replicate the KF experience though. you were pretty much completely on your own, going for huge portions of the game without seeing a single person. you had no idea where to go, and next to nothing about the setting. it was a complete mystery that you had to find out every part of yourself. the design of the enviromnets pulled you in, made you paranoid, and made you fear for your safety. the main character had no personality, no dialogue, so they became an extension of yourself. Other FPRPGs have done this since, but KF did it best. I have no interest in any other FPRPGs. I spent over 100 hours exploring every nook and cranny of KF:TAC, taking in all the little touches to make the game so much more alive, yet vacant at the same time.

****, man do I know what this is like. I never played KF, but I bet it was a good game.

Reminds of the Shenmue series. You wouldn't believe how upset I was when Shenmue 2 was canceled for DC. It was like a godsend that it got released for Xbox. The end of Shenmue 2 showed that the adventure was actually only just beginning. But now the series has been canned for good. So umm, let may give a little thanks to the poeple that hated this series without giving it a chance too... THANKS. And now I will end this post with a quote from South Park.
