    Preorder an invisibility cloak?

    Soon to be reality?

That would be so cool, but I doubt they would ever be made legal or affordable to the general public if they ever come to actually exist.

It would very cool to see it in action. The casting of no shadows, sounds great!

Of course, they save the best part for last:
"To be realistic, it's going to be fairly thick. Cloak is a misnomer. 'Shield' might be more appropriate," he said.

They're two steps away from creating a real cloaking device. This thing sound like it only has an "on" feature.

These cloaks probably already exist, but the government has been keeping them hush hush.

Actually, there are such devices for vehicles, using fiberoptic cables. But the vehicle must be moving on the order of inches per minute to appear invisible. Otherwise it doesn't work. Light is bent around the object through the fiber optic cables.

Further, this 'cloaking' technology as it is today using fiberoptics also has medical applications. Endoscopes, containing thousands of bundles of fiberoptic cables, can actually transmit images from inside the human body in full 3D in all directions, without any of the cables blocking any of the view.

The technology is still quite a ways away(years) for an invisible cloak, but it is farther along than most realize.

Isn't Japan working on Ghost in the Shell-inspired cloaks already?

                      Already been done (sorta).
They have videos at this university who have a working one.
It was a jacket with a bunch of micro cameras built in it. All you could see was a blur, when someone was wearing it.
                      Gotta find those links again..

Yeah, yeah, yeah. This is as exciting as when I heard that scientists are working on "warp drive" and "time travel" and "teleportation". "we are thinking about it now, but you might be dead before its a reality".
