Heheh, don't bother trying. He and I have had this discusson numerous times, and he dislikes the games for the very same reason they're so beloved in Japan.

I once suggested he wear a "Minority Hat" with "I H8 Dragon Quest" written on the front and strut through an anime convention.

Dragon Quest 8 has been mainstreamed. It's significantly easier, but it still has its choke points. IMO, the game's difficulty is what other RPGs should live up to.

I thought DQ8 was okay. I like the old schoolness of it and the slimes, of course. But the story wasn't something I was too fond of. Once I got through with the game I didn't really care too much for it. At least my little affair with DQ8 got me through an increadibly boring weekend.

If I wasn't forcing myself to cutback on buying games I'd run out and get it. Which is exactly why I am cutting back. I keept buying games and not playing them so it's a complete waste of money.
