Doukutsu Monogatari (Cave Story) on PSP.

For those of you who don't know, Doukutsu Monogatari I.E. Cave Story is being remade on the PSP by a group of developers known as Variant. Thankfully, they are experienced cell-phone game developers so they know how to work with handheld programming. The remake features sharper, hi-res graphics, music that takes advantage of the PSP's sound chip, and better sound effects as well as a more western friendly dialog that isn't filled with unintentional non-sequiters like the fan-translated game had. In addition, the original game is included complete with limited color palette and odd sound effects. Let's all give a Balrog battlecry "HUZZAH!"

For those who haven't played it, Cave Story is a very addictive freeware metroid style action platformer game. It's pretty awesome and features a corny but loveable story. It's free and higher quality than most games released today so give it a spin here: http://www.gameflaws.com/cavestory/

The release date for the remake is slated 2007.

This has me more excited than the Land Stalker remake. Cave Story was a great game but it's primitive graphics, interface, digitized music, and odd jump height bogged it down a little bit.

I have to admit, that's pretty neat... but are they charging for it? That's not right.

Oh my god! You are so beautiful.
I had no idea how beautiful you were.

It's a commercial game and they ran into some red tape with Studio Pixel but apparently everything is settled now so they probably offered royalties of course. Regardless, I'd gladly PAY for Cave Story. In my eyes it's worth 30-40 bucks compared to most DS and PSP games and the fact that it's now portable is reason alone for me to buy it. I had to carry my laptop around whenever I wanted to play this game.

Doukutsu Monogatari was the best non-commercial game I have ever played. Fun, cute, and action-packed as hell! Give me Level 3 Machine Gun or Die!

Yeah, that game was more fun and memorable than 95% of commercial games.

The Spur's good too, works awesome in that dungeon where all of your weapons are knocked down to level 1.

I just like the Lv. 3 Machine Gun because I can fly with it.

I'd list it in my top five platformers of all time. I wouldn't buy it again because I've already played it so many times but here's hoping that this will lead to sequels and stuff. I'd like to see what the guy who created it could do with budget.

I really should have actually played this then?

Man, why did I never play this before? I guess because I assumed there would be no Mac version. It plays really great. It kind reminds me of Kirby's Adventure of all things. I will be picking it up for the PSP.
