Walt Disney Pictures and Jerry Bruckheimer Films have acquired Game Boys, an action spec by Tom Ropelewski and Evan Katz. The Hollywood Reporter says Jerry Bruckheimer is producing.

The story revolves around two thirtysomething video game junkies recruited by the Department of Homeland Security to lead a geeky army of gamers in a battle against creatures that have come to life from a video game they have mastered.

Bruckheimer Films' Mike Stenson and Chad Oman will executive produce. Leslie Dixon (Freaky Friday) will serve as a producer in some capacity.

Bruckheimer isn't a director, he's a producer. He just happens to have the influence to make everything go splodey 10 times more. Subtlety isn't his forte.

Now that would be one hell of a movie... except that sounds just like every other post-apocolyptic movie. A shotgun toting Kirby would be pretty cool, though.

That's different though.

The way Disney/Bruckheimer describes this is like that Futurama episode, which will without doubt end up being better written, better acted, and just ****ING BETTER than whatever $100 million-budgeted, overmarketed piece of **** they'll eventually come up with.
