    Please Help P.H.

I am new to this forum, and let me start by saying some of the stuff i have read so far is unbelievably impressive. I mean, of course, the creating side-view battle systems, making mice scurry across dungeon floors, and making your own music for the game.

As for my predicament, I HAD rpg maker2, and someone stole it. I didn't get very far, but got pretty far on RPG Maker 1, so i did alright in the week i had 2. After that i didn't play for awhile, until 3 came out. I bought it, played it for a few hours, then immediately traded it in for 2.
2 OWNS 3 due to its customizability, creative freedom, and lego people.

However, I've been out of the loop too long, and my used copy of 2 came instruction-bookless. I tried to dive right in and just mess around, but (i'm ashamed) i'm having quite a bit of trouble. I looked around on the forums here for awhile, and mostly found insanely cool battle redesiging scripts and whatnot, but i can't use them yet. I was wondering if there were any complete basic tutorials. I want to relearn everything from the ground up piece by piece, so i can start redesigning battle systems and how I level up and learn skills. Do any of you know if there is a complete tutorial (perhaps similar to many HTML tutorials you can find) online:? Thanks for listening to my long boring post.

P.S. IF anyone can post how to make a script to play The Final Countdown by Europe, i will literally crap my pants.

On the front page of the pavilion, just click on "tutorials" under "RPG Maker 2" That should get you started nicely.

Also, the rpgmmag site has some good information about RPG Maker 2 basics.

Even if you don't get anywhere at first, fiddling around with the different options is indeed a good way to (re-)learn the system. And it's fun when you learn it by making complete nonsense.

True, and you know what's good for total nonsense:?

The only entry level tutorial I found was Prima's RPG Maker 2 strategy guide. It has most of the game explained in there, and it shows you how to create a basic quest(using preset data) in a day. Other than that, it's best to play with the preset data.

Yeah, i have the guide and it's pretty cool, it's great for map-editing tips and thumbnails. Now that you mention it and i relook it over, it's a lot more helpful with defining the types of scripts, which was my big problem. However, if you have any pointers with that, it'd be great. Also, for some reason i can't figure out how to rotate objects in object placement mode. I tried the usual (hold triangle + direction), but it only edits the action of the item if it has one. Man i have a lot of problems. Sorry.

Has anyone got that Europe song down yet:? It rules.

Holding triangle and using the left analog will rotate the objects.

www.rpgmmag.com has the instructions for 2 available for download. good thing to have on-hand for those retarded editor button combos.

A basic "Doors" tutorial is in the VFX Editor Guide, linked to in my signature.

The guide is unfinished for advanced stuff, but basic Visual Effects work is covered from creation to scripeing to placement.

                      Good Luck and Welcome!
