    My mind: Blown.

All right, so most of you don't know (or care) about modern Interactive Fiction. The whole reading/no pictures thing really turns a lot of people off. And most people still think of it as puzzle fest treasure hunts like Zork. Modern IF, however, is the closest thing we've got to videogame art right now. Combining interactivity with the depth of the written word.

I love the stuff. But I can't write it. The programing langue was always too hard to get into. You had to define locations as rooms, things as objects, and then all the complex interactions between them and the player. But now after three years in the making Inform 7 has been released. And it's AMAZING. Instead of learning some complex programing language, you type in english sentices and the program turns them into the game.

It's almost magical. You write the world, and it is instantly created. Mind blowing! It's like a real life application of The Art in Myst.

Even if your not interested in IF, but have anything to do with programing CHECK THIS OUT.

I'm interested in both programming and IF and I'd say this is quite cool. These days I'm a bit busy so it'll be awhile before I check it in depth. Anyway, thumbs up, and thanks for the flag.

        I think I just orgasmed.

As a writer, this makes me glee.

As a writer who loves video games, this makes me squee.

As a writer who love video games and is simple and lazy, this has become my new God.

I tried. I purused the manual. I was consistantly given errors when I [go!]'d what I wrote. I will stick to making games what have pictures.

But I'll gladly try out stuff that others make.
Oh my god! You are so beautiful.
I had no idea how beautiful you were.

Seems cool as hell, but I fear I'll get sick of this like I did with Click and Create, and RPG Maker.

I've downloaded it, but haven't tried it yet. The example certainly could have been more exciting.

The same thing happened to me, Gus. But then again the same thing happened when I tryed to progam in Inform 6 and had no clue what was wrong, and there were 10 times the amount of errors, and that was after spending hours trying to get code to even attept to compile. It's taken a little while to understand the "grammer" of the language, but once you get the hang of it things are much MUCH simpler than any other IF language.

A commen first time project for new writers is to recreate their house. My house is rather dull, so right now I'm programing a model of the Dave & Buster's where I work.

My advice is to read a bit, then dive right in. Sure, your program won't work, but you'll learn why and you can fix it up and learn the rules.

I'm downloading it right now. The worst that can happen is that I'll get frustrated and lose interest and waste some time I could have spent on RPGM, not like I use lots of time on RPGM anyway.

Loki, could you find a complete example of an IF program? I mostly get it by looking at theirs, but a complete one to "steal the voice from", that is, change scene names, place names, etc., in order to completly get the program.
