What types of characters do you like?

I have a soft spot for those underdog characters, or the shy ones that try their best. I also have a thing for strong female characters. Probably because of some deep desire to marry a girl that could snap my spine like a twig..........

Id really like to know what kinds the women folk like. Theres always that stereotype that girls like prince charming guys, or girlie princess girls, or bishonen guys.

I know if you ask most guys what kind of characters they like in comics/movies/games/etc they'll say something close to hot babes/girls they'd do, or total badass heroes/villians, or characters who become total badass heroes/villians.

I myslef like those kinds of characters too.

Anyone who has inner monologue.
Nonchalant characters who can rattle off funny quips at will(like Bill Murray in Ghostbusters)

I love calm, rational, intellectual characters. The type that always keeps a level head no matter what the situation may be and thinks things through.

I also love characters that are bat-crap insane, yet very crafty and sharp.

Also, affectionate siblings who'd do anything for each other.

Breaking your idea that girls like mostly bishounen guys. I dig the pretty boys, but as long as they have a very strong, stolid attitude. Kinda like Vincent. But I really dig the stronger, more wize men.

For women, I've always found myself attracted to the strong female roles, and pretty much like the men, a very stolid and learn-ed individual who has a taste for swords and beating ass. :P

Supporting actors and actresses who steal the show/movie whenever they're onscreen.

Kaylee from Firefly/Serenity is a good example. I have such the crush on Jewel Staite.

It doesn't really matter what the personality types are, but I'm always a sucker for a character searching for redemption.

I enjoy characters that remind me of real people. If they are not perfect and smooth all the time, and if they make mistakes, then I am much more likely to pay attention to their story. I also enjoy characters that change and evolve in unique, unpredictable ways.

Sometimes I like characters with inner conflict. It doesn't have to be displayed on the surface or even acknowledged in the story that much. It's interesting to see characters struggle with personal conflict while trying to overcome even bigger challenges.

I don't care much for pretty boys or bishies. I like my men to be weathered and, if possible, battle ready. I want to see a man who isn't beautiful and delicate.

I also enjoy the underdog, male or female. I mostly blame this on the early seasons of the X-files and my brief "Fox Mulder" infatuation.

O_o... >.> Who, me? Yeah, I still go crazy for bishies, but not so much as I did in my younger days. It really depends. I prefer the pretty ones with substance, much like Libby said. I like the totally narcissistic to the point of hilarity ones, like Tamaki from Ouran High School Host Club or Ayame from Fruits Basket, because they have such bright and flamboyant personalities. They may be totally into themselves, but they also care deeply about others, even if they won't admit it.

Then there's the sort like Yuki from Gravitation, who is good-looking but hates everybody and isn't afraid to act like it. While we're on the subject of Gravitation, I love Mr. K because not only is he handsome, he shoots anything that moves. I <3 the homicidal types! Psychotic characters that like blowing things up are also good, on that note.

Anyway, aside from the bishies (), I tend to sway towards villainous characters a lot. Nine times out of ten, they're way cooler than the hero. (I find this mostly applies to anime, but can be used in shows in movies at times.) Case in point: Record of Lodoss Wars, where Parn is a total loser and Ashram should have freakin' decapitated Parn to spare the world the agony of dealing with such an enormous retard.

As for female characters, strong ones are cool, but I also like the ones that are laid back and don't really care either way how things go. I suppose they're strong in their own right as they don't let anything get to them, they just go with the flow.

I'm a huge fan of the underdog, too. >.> I mean, how satisfying is it when they win the day? Very!

I can usually find myself liking most characters that seem realistic, but I tend to prefer the self-destructive psychotics.

The only kinds of characters that I generally dislike are the submissive/need-to-be-saved or histrionic drama queen female characters, and the self-important macho male characters.

I forgot one. Characters like the main character in FLCL, who just want all that messed-up **** to go away.
