    S4: Solid Snake, Silver Screen

    http://www.gamesarefun.com/news.php?newsid=6273

Metalgearsolid.org is reporting that Hideo Kojima, famed director of the Metal Gear series, has confirmed that plans are underway for a film adaptation of Metal Gear Solid. He mentioned it on his podcast, HIDECHAN! Radio.

We don't currently have any other information on this announcement, but before the speculation goes crazy in the comments, Uwe Boll is not making the movie.

Now, I'm scared. After seeing what happened to Silent Hill, I don't think I can handle it happening again. My mind may finally snap. *goes on hands and knees to pray*
I had to change accounts. I'm here now - http://www.pavilionboards.com/forum/member.php?u=1475

If Kojima directs it(why the hell shouldnt he), you could gurantee it would be good.

actually, Christopher Walken as Liquid sounds pretty sweet.
****, Walken should play everyone. up to and including Meryl.

I bet Kojima will direct it. its obvious from his games that he wants to direct a movie. this is his chance.

regardless, hs position is so high in konami that any decisions about a movie, from directing, casting, everything is up to him.

David Hayter needs to be solid snake though. no other voice would be right. he could adapt the look for the character too.

Because if anything, Silent Hill has shown us Konami can churn out a good videogame movie.

Finally, the first videogame-to-movie adaptation that makes sense. The videogames are pretty much playable movies anyway, so it wouldn't be that big a transition to the big screen.

There's also the production studio to worry about. I think they will probably have more say in director, cast, etc than Konami does in the first place.

But will Meryl die or live?!
Everything is a Riemann sum of a lot of nothing.

yeah, meryl lives. she only dies in the "bad" ending, which isnt canon.

PanadaMoe is on the right track here. It's not to say that the studio won't let him direct, it's just that odds are that for Kojima to direct, they'll probably have to accept a reduced budget. I remember a story that kind of equates told by Kevin Smith (bear with me) where he was pitching Chasing Amy and the studio loved it and said "here's 10 million, now go cast Drew Barrymore, Ben Stiller" and someone else (I forget, but another "name"). Smith looked at them and told them that he had written it for his friends and that was who he was going to cast. The suits told him fine, but if that was the case he could have $200,000 and that's it. (For a better retelling see: A Night with Kevin Smith)

A lot of it really depends on what sorts of financing could be found, so things could probably be very different, but odds are that a studio will not want to put a lot of money in a videogame movie without some marketable names behind it.
