    Save The Internet

As of wednesday, the internet will be in the hands of AT&T. ( I never thought I'd type that. )

    http://www.savetheinternet.com/

Once again, big media screws us, and we become enslaved by their rules and gone will be the internet as we know it. The rich will get richer, and the powerful more powerful.

    Hoooray.

Meh, the Internet is full of slackers and needs to be destroyed anyways.

      Re: Save The Internet

This has been in progress for years. Once it became mainstream, the internet became a bastion for critical thinking that could rarely be found elsewhere, and the power elite did not like this.

Where else can you find news stories that your media doesn't want to tell? Where else can you freely express your opinion to potentially hundreds of thousands, and even millions, of individual people, with such regularity? Where else can you find such a wide array of information, without having to spend hours digging for it at a library(even if the content may be watered down)?

So of course big business and big government both want to radically alter it. It threatens to displace what power they have and return some of it to ordinary people(or at least the ones with computer access).

But the internet is the only place that I exist anymore. I don't want to be destroyed. Hmm... It would be kind of ironic; God of Destruction destroyed by AT&T.

          Wow. thats really ****ed up.

I feel this is EXTREMELY important, so I actually frontpaged it... making smurtle the first non-staff member to have a news post.

I also signed. I really do want the Internet to stay mildly unsucky.

Even if this gets millions of signatures, the probability is high that our congress will let this bill pass through. After all, those pushing for this bill are funding their campaigns.
