Adjusting field objects heights

I didn't see this answered before so I'll ask this question-

Ok, I remember seeing on GameFaq's instructions on how to lower those mounds which cities, dungeons, ect are placed on fields. I also know that they're supposed to be lowered because there is a height modify value on these objects. Sorry to sound like such a noob but how do you adjust these things height?

When you're placing it, I think you hold L2 or R2 to lower it. I know it's some button you hold. Just one button. Hold it until it won't go down anymore (you'll be left with the building's base instead of the whole pedestal), or until it looks right.
