well, the things she is talking about there arent true of all muslims. I've talked to a few who it definately doesnt apply to. and being an atheist, I've never once been called a "heretic" like that man called her. She's only addressing the bomb-happy ones, I believe. most people probably already know this (including you, rone).

this kind of thing happens with all religions. there's good members, there's bad members. the bad members always get the most publicity. no one wants to hear about the muslims who arent fanatical and blowing stuff up. likewise, no one wans to hear about the christians that arent potesting something or screaming on TV about being a god warrior.

Aye, I have a friend who is a Muslim; he lives in an apartment next to me on campus and he isn’t extreme or fanatic at all. But to be honest, he never reads the Koran and even admits that he is only Muslim because he was raised Muslim, and doesn't know a lot of what his own faith teaches.

But I think the main point in her diatribe was the clash of two times; medieval and modern. Obviously there are peace-loving Muslims, but these folks tend to be Muslims with western ideals who live in western nations. And although not every Muslim from the Middle East is a radical, bomb-blowing fanatic, these types tend to come out of the Middle East. This is due, as she says, to people with a dark-ages mentality trying to live in a modern world. It isn’t that Islam needs to be abolished; rather, just like Judaism and Christianity before it, Islam must be reformed if it wants to exist in a modern world.
