    What is in store for me?

    Hey guys...
    What's in store for me if I do get RPG Maker 3? Because I'm soooooo
    @!#$ing tired of RPG Maker 2.Plus I need to see screenshots of what I can do.

      Which basically show screens of the worst sample game humanity has ever seen. However, the maker itself is quite nice, if not (extremely) limiting.

        As for your question of what's in store for you I would say:

        RPGM2 = Frustration followed by great games

        RPGM3 = Dissappointment followed by mediocre games at best.

          Actually, you can make great games with RPGM3 as well. HOWEVER you have a lot, lot,LOT less options with RPGM3. It goes something like this:

          RPGM1: Due to the lack of keyboard support, save for old-school emulations, or for games where you need an EXACT character model instead of a pre-generated one (anime maker.)

          RPGM2: Because of the difficulty of use, use it for a game with 1 or many innovations that you need RPGM2 powerful support for, any non-rpg you want to make with RPGM (Tetris is a prime example), or just for anything you need to get very in-depth in the maker to do.

          RPGM3: Really, this is best for long dungeon crawling epics (basiclly just hack and slash, like Champions of Norrath with battles on a seperate screen). The Map Maker is helpful (although some complain about it) and the graphics blow the others out of the water, but you don't have a lot of options, the character/NPC limit is EXTRMELEY frustrating, and the character models (aside from the animals) look like crap.

          My pick is RPGM3, although I wouldn't argue it's superiority to anyone. See, I program text games, and when I use an RPGM3, graphics are one of the key things I want, and something RPGM3 delivers astoundingly. If thats your case, get RPGM3. Otherwise, you'd probably be best sticking it out with 2.

            If only RPGM3 was a hack and slash. Now that would be one cool game. With the giant sizes of some of the monsters, that would make for some epic battles. Alas, none of that is in the game and one of my gripes actually is the battle system. There is some promise to it, but after a while it gets kind of old. My fav is RPGM2 because if you have enough patients you make about any type of battle system you want. And VFX editor gives you the power to make any visual your mind can think of... not perfectly the way you picture it, but pretty close.

              and the character models (aside from the animals) look like crap.
              I don't see how, unless you're counting the more odd models and colors. Only problem I had in that area was that there weren't nearly enough enemy-looking models available.

              I think the lack of enough options is what makes the games created it not-so-great. Interesting games can be made, but they'll all be a little too similar, with very few exceptions.

                Yeah. As for what's in store for you, you'll find an awesome and easy-to-use editor. Although if you've delved into RPG Maker 2 some, you'll be frustrated by the incredible lack of options in 3.

                Not to knock RPG Maker 3(I'm starting to respect it now), but I'm gonna compare it to wives, so you can get a general idea of what you're in for.

                RPG Maker 2 is difficult to get along with, but once you understand her and know how to use her, she becomes the best partner you've ever had.

                RPG Maker 3 is much easier to get along with and looks better. But, due to the fact that she's stubborn and doesn't want to expand her horizons, the relationship has a good chance of getting very stale, because she's similar to most women.

                  Yeah I'm going with the guy above me. My personal favorite is RPG Maker 2 because you can do just about everything you can with 3 in RPG Maker 2(IF YOU KNOW HOW TO USE IT) 3 has way better graphics but from a Designing point of view it is VERY limited. You no longer have the ability to create custom character model colors as you did in 2. Instead it reverts back to RPG Maker 1 with give you a limited amount of character models and then giving them four Preset color schemes. The Map Editor is a very strong feature. It definately has a plus over 2 as far as user friendlyness goes. But again. You can make any map with 2 that you can with 3 if you know how to use 2. Cut scene wise.....forget it. The only cut scene options you have is a bunch of 2D images on top of a 2D background with some text and maybe a floating object or two and some low end screen effects. No camera control for that cinematic effect or any of the cut scene options you have in RPG Maker 2. But if you can creat a very solid storyline to keep your audience interested then these are all very minor faults. Still my vote is for RPG Maker 2 for it's diversity....if you know how to use it.

                    Actually, overall I'm a little disappointed with RPGM3's field creation system. It's very simple, but there isn't enough control over land height. It's easier to get that mountain ridge to look how I want in RPGM2. Not to mention RPGM2 provides for larger overworld maps, with smaller building icons (meaning that island isn't going to wind up being 65% town entrance).

                      I'm really thinking about getting back to RPGM3 after I finish Ace Combat Zero. Even if I end up just making a sequel or two to my garbage contest entry (This time I'll spell check it and stop letting the retard within me loose on the keyboard, and the balance and plot may turn out a little nicer, plus there will be more S.H.N.G.!!!!) it'll feel good to contribute a little more material to the boards.

                      I think RPGM2's biggest flaw is it's depressingly unrealistic graphics. Plus, some of my best (Or at least most unique) ideas require RPGM3's character battles.

                      RPGM3 is my favorite on two counts, it's got damned good graphics, and it's easy to use. It's biggest flaws are more inconveniences than anything else, like the way all characters and creatures have their own separate list of both scripts and skills, and you can't copy/paste any of it. Plus the 100 character limit, which forces you to think ahead.

                      Fortunately there's some workarounds for stuff like the 100 character limit (The multi-save trick), and variable addition, subtraction, and comparison.

                        You can create the same type of battle system in RPGM2, if you know what you are doing. there is absolutelly NOTHING that you can do with RPGM3 that you can't do with RPGM2. Yes, RPGM3 is easier to use but with this simplicity comes an EXTREME lack in functionality. You are very limited as to what you can and can't do with RPGM3 as opposed with RPGM2 you can create virtually anything that you want. As far as the world creation goes I was merely talking of the idea of simply drawing out you layout and it automatically adjusting everything. Of course this has it's flaws as far as editing and final touches goes, which RPGM2 picks up for. Graphic wise, personally and realistically, the graphics were the only thing that RPGM3 had up on RPGM2. Which, again personally, graphics don't mean anything when you're dealing with RPG's it's the storyline that carries the game look at Final Fantasy 7 and Xenogears. Graphically challenge, but storyline wise the greatest games ever created and that's why they are still in mass production to this day. Because of their story, not their graphics.

                            I like how RPGM3 has a processor guide (Great for detecting lag before it happens), and has a great draw distance with maps.

                            I dislike it's low amount of customobility, and it's horrible load times for battle.

                            I love RPGM2 for it's customobility and it's Powerful creation software.

                            I dislike it's low draw distance for Maps though.

                            RPGM3 for basic dungeon crawling, or storytelling.

                            RPGM2 for technical specs, amount of graphics/music, and options.

                            Take your pick.

                              Nicely put. That pretty much covered it. If you want to zoom really far out when creating maps and you virtually no customizing aspects and very poor cut scene's with no cinematics, but very good graphics and very simplistic, user friendly design controls, go with RPGM3. If you want not-so-good graphics(Like PS1 style) but virtually infinant amounts of customization and be able to literally design ANYTHING you can possible think of. Then RPGM2 is where it's at. My pick is RPGM2 because the customization and the freedom of design far out weighs the petty little perks in RPGM3.
