    An unknown hero

For the time being, this is the #1 ytmnd. I don't think it'll last long, but everyone should know this name...

    Stanislav Petrov

In 1983, the man refused to go through w/ protocol when the Russian computers registered that 2 nuclear missles were launched by the U.S. His direct orders were to launch a massive nuclear counterattack. He went against orders, and refused to go through with the attack. He was right, and it was a false alarm created by their computer.

Here this man saved millions of lives, many of us wouldn't be here w/out him, and I didn't even know of his name. Here's to all the unknown heroes out there.

That man must have nerves of steel to go against orders that way. I wonder why no one countermanded him. It's also amazing that he's still alive. Worthy of salute and much gratitude. Wow. Reminds me of Hunt for Red October.
