From Tim at Insert Credit.
I figured some of you mouth breathers would be interested.
If you visit the front page of Game Watch right now, you'll see a sidebar recruiting advertisement from Square-Enix, which features a picture of a character from Final Fantasy XII, which, coincidentally, is still being flamed harshly and continuously on 2ch. According to the ad, Square-Enix values "ideas" over "experience," and they're accepting recent college graduates and/or employees from any other trades. They are going to be absolutley swamped in applications, which is exactly what they want. The more candidates, the higher the chance of one of them being the next something good.
The job listing page proper is here. If you wish to apply -- remember, they're hiring anybody -- all you have to do is assemble a resume (photograph required -- Miss Aki (above) is no doubt what they're looking for, so maybe you'd better use hers -- that's who their ideal game would be made by, a whole office full of gorgeous big-haired piano-banging she-geeks) that includes your work history, your email address ("if you have one," says the site), the name of the place you heard of this callout (that would be insertcredit.com, yes), and a maximum two-page statement about what type of game you'd make if you could make whatever game you want. You may write in whatever informal writing style you wish!! So, kids and adults out there in internet-land, Babelfish is go!!
Also, should you get the job, you'll be working in Shinjuku, Tokyo, Japan, known as the largest Metropolitan Cancer on earth. You will earn 900 yen an hour. This, at the Final Fantasy XII exchange rate (200 yen or 60 gil for a Potion), equals 315 gil an hour. So you will need to work at least 15.87 hours before you can buy a Gold Amulet, which will double the amount of License Points you receive from your work.
In summary, Square-Enix is offering to pay people roughly $8.50 an hour to write videogame stories and brainstorm battle systems for them. I'm sure we'll end up with the many sequels to Brave Fencer Musashi we so desire, at this rate.
The deadline for applications is May 8th.
There, made it through the whole post without mentioning that there's pretty much no one important left at Square-Enix nowadays, anyway. Maybe you can be the next Tetsuya Nomura, and stumble your way through to meeting Gackt and getting him to wear something silly!!
