take Azumanga Daioh, mix it with His and Hers, and add a pinch of Furi Kuri and you'll get THE GREATEST SHOW EVER.
the manga is now available in the US (though I have the first four volumes in Japanese) and the second season's began airing in Japan. so let's talk about it.
The series is a comedy that cover the daily life of high school student Tsukamoto Tenma, her friends and her classmates unsuccessful attempts at love. The story itself is lighthearted and contains the group's daily occurrences. However, in School Rumble, these day to day interactions are exaggerated and at times can be considered over-dramatic. In the beginning the main focus of the story are Tsukamoto Tenma's struggle with her love interest, Karasuma Ohji, and Harima Kenji's dilemma concerning his love for Tenma.
As of the 6th and 7th volumes of the manga, the plot of the story has changed greatly. The story has switched to focusing mostly on the interactions between Harima Kenji, Tsukamoto Yakumo, who is Tenma's younger sister, and Sawachika Eri, who is Tenma's classmate. Tenma and Karasuma Ohji play more infrequent and minor roles. This is commonly attributed to the popularity polls conducted regularly in the Japanese magazine, which resulted in showing how these three characters are far more popular then the rest.
I don't watch much anime anymore (this, His and Hers, Beck, and Bleach are pretty much it), but damn, if this isn't one of the funniest and most endearing shows around.
