I'm seeing Robots

Magus's topic reminded me of this. Asimo came to my school a couple weeks ago! Somehow I got front row seats to the event. It was... freaking...


AWESOME.


The place was completely packed. The presentation went for about an hour, as we saw Asimo run, dance, kick, climb up and down stairs, and heckle the announcer. The crowd was into it; it was pretty amusing to hear them cheering the little guy on as he was dancing and such.

Honda was REALLY playing up the whole robots-as-helpers notion. The way they were overdoing it, I suspect an entire Asimo army is about to be unleashed upon us. If you can walk faster than 3 miles/hour, you should be safe.

They even showed a clip of that at the presentation! It was sweet, but some of the stuff was just a little too glitsy. Asimo's grand entrance was up there in absurdity with a pro wrestler's.

We're one step closer to any of the "robots-go-nuts-and-cause-armageddon" movie plotlines coming true! I already don't trust Asimo...

Meeeeehhh. I say they stop wasting time on a biped robot. Human walking is the most awkward movement of the animal kingdom.

We should make a monkey robot instead. One that can sit on your shoulder and fling old circuit boards at you.

But humanoid robots are best suited to help humans in day to day tasks. What would a handicapped person do with a JAGUAR robot?

Spider robot!

And monkeys are humanoid, silly. The difference is, they can walk on all fours too, which would (if you ask me) give it more capabilities than ASIMO.

Hmm, a robot programed to walk on all fours like a human instead of a natural quadraped. Intreguing.
