    I published a blog entry

    http://www.evworld.com/blogs/index.c...d=87&archive=0

    A brief summary:

Fuel economy can be improved by roughly 40% in today's cars just by adressing aerodynamic drag. This is without making the engines smaller or less powerful, without shrinking the car itself, without going to a hybrid-electric or diesel powertrain, without low rolling resistance tires, without synthetic transmission oils or changed gear ratios, without CVTs, without composite body materials or major weight reductions. Just by changing the physical shape of the car. Further, the most aerodynamic cars sold in America today(ie. Toyota Prius) aren't near as aerodynamic as a handful of similarly sized cars built 70+ years ago!

    For those interested, read.

I'll be publishing more entries later, specifically in regards to electric vehicle technology, peak oil and how its effects could be minimized, oil politics, and hyper efficient 80+ mpg midsize and full size cars and 80+ mpg high performance sports cars. The audience that will have access to the entries is at least in the thousands, judging by the total page views of other entries.

You make me wish I had investment capital. There's a niche waiting to be exploited on either coast of the U.S. with affluent people that like to think of themselves being at the spearhead of green technology. If people are willing to pay well-above sticker price for Priuses..Prii? Then this should be a no-brainer.

It gets even better. An extremely aerodynamic car like the one I outlined would be able to go roughly 150 miles per charge at highway speeds on ~2,000 pounds of the same off the shelf lead acid batteries used in golf carts. No advanced batteries needed. Such a car might weigh 3,500-4,000 pounds, 2,000 of it in batteries, have roughly a 21 square foot frontal area and .16 drag coefficient.

An equal weight in today's lithium batteries would give such a concept near 1,000 miles range.

With a proper design, there's really no need for advanced batteries for acceptable range, there will just be a major weight penalty in that case.
