japanese ps2 & import games

so, i was considering buying a japanese ps2 system since i don't like the idea of hacking my system with a mod chip.

my questions are these:

will a jp ps2 hook up like my regular u.s. system? would everything be compatible out of the box?

what are the best places to import from? ncsx is usually the place i visit when i'm thinking of importing anything, but what about any others(lik-sang, etc.). which is best in terms of reliability, price and selection?

We use play-asia most of the time. I'm not sure about the JP PS2 question, though.

ha! the list would be too long, trust me. but mostly fighting games or anything else that interests me at the time(namco x capcom comes to mind).

Namco X Capcom is the SHIZNIT.

Then again, there are a ton of import games that I personally want to try out, like Tokimeki Memorial.

okay, you got me. i'm not gonna break it down with a long list, but suffice it to say there's plenty of games i'd be willing to buy and play, even in japanese. there's a lot of decently priced(for import games at least) PSone books titles like chrono trigger, castlevania sotn, valkyrie profile, etc. i've played through the u.s. versions of these games multiple times so seeing my way to end of each game wouldn't be too hard. also, i have a bit of collector's blood running through my veins, in which it begs me to collect cool video game stuff for no real reason. such as: i saw a capcom fighting jam(CFEvolution) for sale that came with a "master's dvd" that supposedly shows videos of how to combo and all that. i'm past the beginner's level in CFE, but it's small extras like that which make me feel like getting it. limited editions, special editions, bonus editions, extra editions, overly-priced mega rare one print editions... those kinds of things they make for idiots like me.

that does look cool. i'll certainly keep it in mind.

I'd honestly suggest just getting SwapMagic if you have a slim PS2 as it requires no "real" modding.
