    The Diet Coke of evil

I usually drink a lot of diet coke or diet pepsi at work. It's free and it has caffeine. Of course, we also have coffee, and I've been thinking of switching to that. Many of you know that just like any stereotypical gay man, I tend to obsess about my figure and weight a bit too much, but I'm wondering if I should cut back on that stuff and have water and coffee instead. I see lots of articles against aspertame (nutrasweet), and I've also heard that the body interprets that stuff as sugar anyway and works against losing weight. Articles like this...

So what have you guys heard? Is diet soda really that bad, or just diet coke, or am I overreacting?

I've heard nasty things about aspartame (in terms of cancer risk), but I haven't found any real evidence to prove that. I avoid it like the plague, since I can't stand the taste of artificial sugar.

I used to drink that clearly canadian stuff, but they started using aspartame, and I could tell the difference right away. It leaves a wonky aftertaste in my mouth.

doesnt aspertane give you breast cancer or something? i think a study recently proved that it has cancer causing agents in it so id probaly stay away from it, even though i have no boobs (to bad).

i hear coffee isnt much better when it comes to health, but everyone and their mother seams to drink it in the morning so its probaly a better choice. water is your safest bet though, but make sure its purified or youll end up dead like walkerton foaks.

Thank you Ωbright for the sig fix!

Unfortunately, men can get breast cancer, too.

Ok, what can I drink during work that'll keep me awake and NOT kill me?

...and sorry, but bottled water is a scam. Putting it through a filter isn't a bad thing though.

Why not just drink a regular soda? I don't think it would make that much of a difference if you get enough exercise during the week.

Coffee might be a good idea for now.

Just a word on bottled water...the Environmental Protection Agency's standard for tap water is higher than that used by the Food and Drug Administration for manufacturers of bottled water.

Diet Crush sweetens with Splenda, but I don't believe there's any caffeine.

There's still no concrete evidence about risks from aspertame intake, my Doctor reaffirmed this. But it's still probably none too good to down the 2L I occasionally do some days. (I've been on diet so long regulaur is too ungodly sweet.)

Still, aspertame is is being phased out. Don't be surprised to see it soon replaced with sorbitol or some other "milder" sugar alchohols in the near future.

as I work at a computer. I was quite a bit overweight a few years ago.

I'm 6'5" and 250lbs. That's technically still overweight for my height.
So would 6'4" 220lbs be overweight? If so then I guess I'm a little over weight myself.

With the whole diet coke thing, I don't really know if I should believe it causes anything bad. Either way, I stay far away from diet soda (I don't like the taste.) My advice is if you are to drink diet soda avoid diet, caffiene free mountain dew. The reason is because... it tastes really bad, IMO.

                              Just drink tea.

It's good for you and has a lot of caffeine.
