    What ceases to amaze me.

The old news: They lied, they continue to lie, and will continue to lie in the future. What surprises me is why Karl Rove, who seems to be the only man in the current administration that is adept at his job, continues to work with a bunch of ****-ups. It's like there's a gentleman's bet we weren't privy to that he could make America eat a ****-sandwich for eight years. And instead of operating as a gag reflex, as the opposition party should, they're busy scrabbling to pick out the peanuts.

WASHINGTON - In dramatic and sometimes agonizing terms, federal disaster officials warned President Bush and his homeland security chief before Hurricane Katrina struck that the storm could breach levees, risk lives in New Orleans' Superdome and overwhelm rescuers, according to confidential video footage of the briefings.

Bush didn't ask a single question during the final government-wide briefing the day before Katrina struck on Aug. 29 but assured soon-to-be-battered state officials: "We are fully prepared."

Six days of footage and transcripts obtained by The Associated Press show in excruciating detail that while federal officials anticipated the tragedy that unfolded in New Orleans and elsewhere along the Gulf Coast, they were fatally slow to realize they had not mustered enough resources to deal with the unprecedented disaster.

Linked by secure video, Bush's bravado on Aug. 29 starkly contrasts with the dire warnings his disaster chief and a cacophony of federal, state and local officials provided during the four days before the storm.

A top hurricane expert voiced "grave concerns" about the levees and then- Federal Emergency Management Agency chief Michael Brown told the president and Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff that he feared there weren't enough disaster teams to help evacuees at the Superdome.

"I'm concerned about ... their ability to respond to a catastrophe within a catastrophe," Brown told his bosses the afternoon before Katrina made landfall.

Some of the footage conflicts with the defenses that federal, state and local officials have made in trying to deflect blame and minimize the political fallout from the failed Katrina response:

_Homeland Security officials have said the "fog of war" blinded them early on to the magnitude of the disaster. But the video and transcripts show federal and local officials discussed threats clearly, reviewed long-made plans and understood Katrina would wreak devastation of historic proportions. "I'm sure it will be the top 10 or 15 when all is said and done," National Hurricane Center's Max Mayfield warned the day Katrina lashed the Gulf Coast.

"I don't buy the `fog of war' defense," Brown told the AP in an interview Wednesday. "It was a fog of bureaucracy."

_Bush declared four days after the storm, "I don't think anybody anticipated the breach of the levees" that gushed deadly flood waters into New Orleans. But the transcripts and video show there was plenty of talk about that possibility — and Bush was worried too.

    .

...Oooooookay, sure he's a champion debator when it comes to his past college-life, but really, his job is to make a lame-duck president look good, and Bush's approval ratings are an all time low.

So, I don't agree with you.

Considering it's six years into this administration's reign and the approval ratings have slipped down into consistently bad ratings only as recently as 6 months ago, I'd say Rove's done pretty well with what he has to work with. I mean, I've had to work with ****-ups before and it's exhausting.

When I objectively look at the long list of horrifying things this administration is directly responsible for, I can't help but be impressed that their biggest concern is unfriendly poll numbers, and not something like a military coup or massive rioting.

            Shard,

Indeed. As much as I dislike Rove's ideology, after doing some research, I do have to agree with you for the most part. Before I did any reading, I simply assumed he was there (Because it's all they tell us on the news) to make Bush look good.

That's because it's unlikely that a group of Americans large enough would do it(not counting the extremists, they're freaking nuts). You know, *BAAAAAAA* and all.

I dont know everything about politics. But from what i've seen, I know what kind of a ****tard is running/ruining our country, and trying to run/ruin the **** planet. Which is why I hate him and all his **** cronies too.
The end. (This means I dont want to start an argument, that would/might be considered topic hijacking, wouldnt it?)
I am now leaving the topic.

                  These photos ring a bell?

                  Taken two days post Katrina.

How about a little snip from an article:

Condoleezza Rice, the secretary of state, toured her home state, Alabama. She had been criticised for watching the Broadway musical Spamalot as New Orleans flooded.

                  http://www.guardian.co.uk/katrina/st...html?gusrc=rss

                  How about these videos?

                  http://www.bushflash.com/wmf/Hannity...reak-in-NO.wmv
                  http://www.bushflash.com/wmf/Meet-th...-Broussard.wmv
                  http://www.bushflash.com/wmf/Anderso...tt-Katrina.wmv

Put those in conjunction with the article that is the subject of this topic, and you will understand just how our country is run, and where our leaders have set their priorities.

I'd be amazed Bush has managed to keep his approval rating in the 30s, if it wasn't for the fact that about 35% of this country will support this corporate puppet, no matter what. Dick Cheney, who arguably is really the executive in control, has an 18% approval rating!

Further, this catastrophy was used as another means for profiteering. $32 bags of ice, $12 hamburgers, and $8 bottles of water, anyone? Our tax dollars at work, thrown straight into a black hole as Americans struggle to make ends meet, as big government and big business both rake in the rewards.

But Cheney SHOT somone, that has to make his ratings go through the roof!

I would be shocked to my core if a poltician DID NOT lie.

Considering he was at about 21% before that shooting incident, the effect has been insignificant at best given a 3% margin of error in the polls.

I have nothing to add for fear of putting my foot in my mouth.

                        But I will say this!

There's only so much more time left... We just have to weather the storm and then come together as a people to elect someone who will erase all of the wrongdoing that has taken place these past 6 years and the 2 that are left.

Ah, who am I kidding, we're screwed.
