    The Fifth Age of Ghin

Okay, so this is my first shot at this whole RPG Maker thing, but I figured I'd give it a whirl. Here's the general outline and backstory for my plot...

“In the first age, Uga’Ine, God of Life, took up the chaos in the universe and created Ghin, a picture of serenity. With that serenity, he created all who would cultivate the land and its inherent peace…

In the second age, the Twin Goddess’ Sinthra’Ill and Tembi’Ire, created religion and politics to keep the flawed life of Ghin on the righteous and moral path. Together, Sinthra and Tembi also brought about knowledge, so the life of Ghin could learn and comprehend the former…

In the third age, the devious sibling, Kei’Ose, God of Strength, used religion and politics for his own sick tests of will, distorting the Twins’ creation, to create war. Pitting the life of Ghin against each other, fueled by their own greed, Kei’s war continued until an attack from outside the boundaries of the land…

In the fourth age, the God’s turned from Ghin and all its races, after learning of their true corruption, and left them to return to chaos. Refusing to accept that as an option, the life of Ghin created their own order, developing a system of caste to retain the peace and serenity of former ages. Unfortunately, corruption is easily hidden beneath the guise of peace and serenity…

In the fifth age, it is said that the final sibling shall return to return Ghin to its old glory...”
-“The Book of Ages” by the Prophet Sybhin.

Basically, the story will revolve around a caste system of races and lead to a lot of political intrigue.

    Any thoughts?

Sounds intriguing, but could be very confusing to people. I would make sure not to "just" use text to explain the previous ages.

I would suggest representing each god graphically.

You are going to have to make either the battle system fun or the politics simple, or else it won't be much fun if the story gets to complicated with politics and religion.

Yeah, it will all be simplified. I have all three RPG Makers (inherited them from my cousin), so techically I could use any of them.

An interesting way you could use politics in the game is have it affect battle. This could get a bit tricky, though. I think you have an interesting idea so far. I personally would like to see how this ends up.

You'll probably want to use two. One may work, but the lack of keyboard support will hurt. And 3...lets not even bring that up.

3 is fine depending on what game you are trying to make. I currently am making a game with 32 party members to choose from and have yet to go through making all the characters in the towns.

Re: The Fifth Age of Ghin

Isn't 32 characters a bit much? That is pushing the character limit. And depending on how important those characters are to the story, it would be hard to do some good character development.

ParmesanPull, I would go with RPGM2. There is practically nothing you can't do in it. Unfortunately, it is a very difficult game to learn how to use (expecially if this is your first RPGM experience.) So I would suggest either RPGM1 or 3. RPM3 is very limited, but has some good graphics and is easy to learn. While RPGM1 gives you much more creative freedom, but is in 2-D and is somewhat more difficult than RPGM3.

Not much more difficult than RPGM3.

And 2D isn't always a bad thing. Especially when you're able to create your own character sprites, even if you're only able to create 9 of them.
"What if like...there was an exact copy of you somewhere, except they're the opposite gender, like you guys could literally have a freaky friday moment and nothing would change. Imagine the best friendship that could be found there."

Personally, I like 2-D just fine. For some people, though, it isn't their cup of tea.

Re: The Fifth Age of Ghin

I actually like a bunch of 2D stuff (I still play Wabbit Wampage (SNES Bugs Bunny game) Regularly).

I just don't like creating my own stuff in 2D.

I'd say what I always say to newcomers to RPGMakers:

If you really like this story, make a practice run game first.

Something short and easy. Just to learn the system before you start your "Real" project.

I have a mess to debug if I want to finish my first project (and I MUST finish The Clean Underwear Quest!).

I started a second and it went so smoothly that it will make The Quest a much better project when I return to it.

And as for which maker to use...

If you have good logic skills, do not fear math, and have some programming background (even HTML) RPGM2 is not nearly so intimidating as it is to those without the above qualities.

3 is easy, but it is better to approach RPGM3 without a pre set notion of what you want. I found it is far less frustrating if you just see what you can do with it and make a story around that.

Maybe make the small game on 3 and the "Real" one on 2 since you have them all!

                      Good luck with it.

                      Peace.

                      MOO!

And for a game with "a caste system of races and a lot of political intrigue" RPGM3 would be very hindering, especially with the 100 character limit. Actually, I don't even use RPGM2 (Zieg has my copy), in fact, I am using (and liking) RPGM3. But for this game, 2 is the best fit.

Sounds quite interesting and sounds like a lot of work.
It sounds like a tough first project.
my suggestion, keep yourself organized. When I make my game I always
have a pencil and notebook nearby(keep track of your variables).

                            parmesanpull?
                            what does that name mean?
                            I gotta know.
How will I sleep at night?
