I actually brought up the idea of Pengel save swapping a while back...this is a cool development, to be sure.
My friend made a slew of Pengel DBZ characters. mabye I'll send them here.

Ah, splendid!

Shame we can't do Graffiti Kingdom stuff.

Yup. I remember, and thus it is here. I hadnt considered it before that, but you got it in my head.

Pavilion had a Fighter Maker sub-section on the forums a few years back, but it was closed because it wasnt that active. It's back now though.

I'm going to announce the first contest for these new sections in a few weeks. it's a fun one.

Isn't it funny how things work out like this. (Seriously, happens to me all the time.) I was thinking about asking about something similar. More specifically, if there was any chance of a Fighter Maker 3 being made. Because Fighter Maker 2 needed more beast-like parts. (The closest we had was that thong with the tail.)

Fighter Maker 2 was an international failure. That, combined with the extremely detailed character creation tools that are in the current wrestling games and fighting games pretty much erases any chance for a sequel.

Yeah, that's what I figured. Though it would've had potential, if the idea wasn't presented as flawed as it was. There could've been simpler commands for creating movements (the best animation I was able to create was a guy imploding on himself over and over), and a create-a-tournament/story mode would've been interesting. Movement seemed choppy, too.

The controls, I mean.

It takes to long to get the movements right. That is why can never finish a character. It is really annoying to me. However someday I know I will get it right without the leg going through the head of the guy who is kicking. Darn, how does he do that.

I am pretty happy that we can now submit our characters though. It make me believe buying the software was not completely pointless since I don't know anybody else who knows about the software.

I never heard of it before, but I looked at Agetec's site and am intrigued by Magic Pengle!

I have a question about these "Doodles", though...

Are they user created or are the bits chosen from a list?

If there is a creation tool there for customizing fiddly bits, I can't see how this failed (or how I never heard of it!).

If it is just lists of parts, I can do without it... but if there is a drawing tool I must see this in person!

Information please.

Peace.

Magic Pengel (and it's sequel, Graffitti Kingdom which isnt published by agetec) both use an actual drawing system to create 3D "doodles" for you to use in the game.

I havent played graffitti kingdom yet. but in Magic Pengel, you start out with the ability to draw a body, and earn the ability to draw new parts (arms, legs, weapons, wings, stuff that will always spin (makes for interesting animations), etc.) as you win more battles.

You draw whatever you want a certain part to look like, and it turns it into a 3D object. you can draw ANYTHING. I've made Megaman characters before, as an example.

Magic Pengel is completely linear. the game is about making doodles to fight doodles in normal battles and tournaments. you do this in a small town while locked in a first person perspective.

Studio Ghibli is responsible for all the character designs in Magic Pengel, as a nice little extra. the characters are all very well thought out, and the game has surprisingly good voice acting. After a few years, I'm still unsure of how I feel about the new american intro song... it sounds like something that would be used in a preschooler show on PBS. But thats just fitting with the game's happy and lighthearted theme, I guess.

Wow, that must be one lousy story mode for something with a drawing tool that made 3D models to fail!

Why did they not use that technology for an RPGMaker? (Rhetorical Question)

I will keep my eyes open for this.

Peace.

it failed because of how childish it appears to the random consumer. people who looked into it and learned about it snatched it up though.

I've never seen a copy in a store, its that rare. chances are, I wouldnt even own mine if agetec didnt send it to me.

The bad thing is that they left the story hanging. And sadly, the chances for a sequel to it aren't likely.

I've never worked with any of these, but they sound good. Can you make
actual "fighting games" with Fighter Maker 2 or just custom fighters?

Draygone
02-24-2006, 09:23 PM
Just fighters, unfortunately. And if I remember correctly, about the only mode available was a Vs mode (either vs computer or another human player). That's all you could do, and that is why I believe it failed.

Another thing it needed: custom arenas. It would've been nice to create something like a temple with a breakable wall or floor or something like that.

It's too bad. It would have been such an awsome product if you could make your own story mode and arenas.

Story mode wouldn't have been that hard to do either. They could have done something like RPGM3's Storyteller in between fights. Alas, we will never even see that.
