users will have to pay real-world cash for the items they purchase in the game.
I was excited until I got to that part. Unless the items cost like 99 cents or something like that.
I want that Mulan McNugget sauce, Morty!

      *regains composure somehow*

That's the latest online trend in Japan. Keeps items off ebay, which was a problem for a while.

      They're always super microtransactions.

Oh, and tournament purses, as usual.

Yeah, for us normal people who dont buy their equipment on eBay.

You know, I love games. And getting stuff yourself is half the fun IMHO. I dont see why they would want to punish everyone for all the lazy **** wannabes out there.

          *ahem*

Seriously, now, we have next to no specifics as of yet. I mean, it's just been announced. But I'm almost 100% sure there will be the usual in-game currency, with the physical purchasing being an option. There'd be little reason to compete in tournaments and such otherwise. All MR tourneys have prize purses. It's an integral part of the traditional system.

Tecmo wouldn't jeapordize the series with no normal in-game item purchasing, especially given all the trouble the series has been in lately. They're just expanding it with a convenient feature for those who want it.

That settled, this is an opportunity to see Magic again!

Uhh... methinks you don't know Monster Rancher very well.

Heh, seriously, aside from one or two convenient tools that stay in your inventory and and some food items to slightly lower stress/fatigue, there aren't any hip-bang-zoom items to collect in MR. It's been that way since the beginning.

No problem. Items in MR are strictly there to help make a monster easier to raise, and only a couple are expensive. You can easily do without them, though you'd end up with a somewhat stronger monster otherwise if you schedule carefully enough.

I'm glad they decided to make the online component free, though. I wanna tear Paul apart from the comfort of my own home.

But primarily, this finally allows real PvP online MR tournaments. Back then, tourneys were done by having the CPU control both monsters in "best of 3 matches" for each battle. Now we can do it physically! Well, should this game be released stateside.

I wonder, though... is this game gonna be 2D or 3D?

                  Re: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!! (Monster Rancher-related)

Yeah...I only visit the item shop on tourney days when my monster is tired/angry. Fortunantly, as long as they keep it like normal MR and just have the ranch and the 1-4 towns, they won't have expensive server costs as they won't need to have the ranchers themselves graphically interacting. So, as RPGD, the items will probably be optional and unesscary, although they may make a few "hip-bang-zoom" items for the rich n00bs out there.
I predict this will be just like another MR except for online tourneys. Not that I'm complaining . There will probably be the conventinal tourneys so you can battle/raise ranks at your own pace and then a seperate online battle system.

That artstyle looks familiar. Does it remind me of Final Fantasy Tactics Advance...?

Come to think of it, it kinda looks like a fusion of the art style used in the official artwork for the currently-shelved Monster Rancher Jamboree for DS and MREvo.
