    Sublime

I made a topic similar to this when I first came here but it was about Pink Floyd and I decided to make another about the band Sublime. Does anyone else here like them? I love them and I think the death of Bradley Nowell is the worst loss in music ever. So, I'd like to hear some responses.

Actually, John Lennon was a pretty big loss. But, considering the way Nowell died (heroine overdose) I think it was just a huge waste of such a meaningful life.

As opposed to getting shot in the head.

or Frank Zappa dying of cancer.

Stuff they had no control over.

I wish I could give you neg rep times a zillion.

John Lennon is the saddest to me. =\ Sublime was a good band, but I didn't see them going SUPER OMEGA big back then. They only really got the notion that they might HAVE become big, like 5 years after he died.

Yea, I know that all those people had tragic, horrible deaths that they had no control over but, Bradley Nowell died right around the time they released their first album. I just think he had a lot more going for him. He could be huge right now, Sublime could be huge now, if Nowell (the lead vocalist and guitarist) didn't die.

By the way, this topic isn't even about the loss of musicians. I made this topic so people who appreciate the band Sublime can talk about them.

Before that's done though, I have a something to say:

I'd rate Jeff Buckley as one of the biggest losses, personally. He died in a car crash after he released his first album, Grace. He was a greatly talented musician, with an amazing voice.

Now back to the topic. I used to have the CD with the track that goes:

I smoke two joints in the morning.
I smoke two joints at night.
I smoke two joints in the afternoon, it makes me feel all right
I smoke two joints in time of peace, and two in time of war
I smoke two joints before i smoke two joints,
And then i smoke two more

I got a laugh out of it when I first heard it.

                Re: Sublime

his death is his own damn fault, so it's nothing tragic to me. people like lennon dying from things beyond their fault is much more tragic, especially considering they were far more talented than Nowell ever was, or would have been if he hadnt ended up killing himself.

If a musician doesnt value their own life enough to keep from doing something stupid causing them to die, I dont see why anyone would be sad to see them go. By dying from an OD or suicide, they're basically saying their life was worthless. and I'm inclined to agree with them.

It's stuff like that that I disagree with. How can you measure the talent of two different songwriters from two different time periods and genres. It's like trying to compare Stephen King to William Shakespeare.

EDIT: You guys act like I'm proud that he died in such a dumb way. Don't get me wrong. He made a very dumb decision in using heroine. I don't, however, think he meant to kill himself like suicide.

                    Re: Sublime

looking at their lyrics, and what their songs meant to them and others. thats how.

                    Lennon changed the world.

                    Nowell did not.

yes. he did make a dumb decision. I dont think he meant to kill himself either. but he obviously didnt value himself enough not to do heroine.

                      Re: Sublime

Lennon was around for at least 15 years after they hit it big. Bradley Nowell was dead when Sublime hit it big.

I don't think Nowell had a fair chance to "change the world".

I personally don't think we would have saw Sublime make a song like "Imagine".

Also, I'd rate Dimebag Darrell as another big loss, as he was a great guitar player, and a good guy. The way he died was so ****ed up that I wish that Marine nutjob that shot him wasn't dead, just so I could shoot him myself.

                              Sublime is overrated and overplayed.
