    Message boards

I'm planning on building a message board for some friends of mine. I'm kind of curious as to what's out there in terms of sites for boards. I have considered making a Yahoo group, but I want something that'll be a little more organized for a multi-topic message board. I've also considered EZboards, but have heard some bad stuff here about how the Pav got screwed by them.

I'm looking for something free and fairly low maintenance. I'm not planning on spending tons of time on it, either.

    Any suggestions will be appreciated.

I made a message board with ProBoards before. It was easy to use and customize the categories and look and such.
I want that Mulan McNugget sauce, Morty!

dont do EZboards. They randomly banned 9 members from our forum in 2003 while doing one of their little "upgrades". there's also the horrible downtime, the rediculous cost to have them remove ads, and non-existant tech support. remember when the RM2K people invaded, EZboard told us to just get along with them? oh yeah, a ton of EZboards got wiped back in may too, which proved once and for all that EZboard does NOT keep back-ups of the forums they host. and they're run by people who will ban you if you have a problem with their personal friends coming to your forum and flaming the hell out of you.

Don't mind me. I am sofa king wee todd ed!
Shoulda been my first choice and consideration.

I have some space on Angelfire, I think. It's been awhile since I checked.

Thanks for the heads up on what exactly went down with EZB. The only reason why I was considering them at all was because I made a board with them a couple years ago. I guess back when they were okay.

you're better off staying away from Vbulletin. it costs quite a bit of money to purchase it, and requires full access to the server the thing is on to setup databases and install different things. it cant be run on an angelfire account. no free hosting service will work with it.

Thanks again. I kind of figured that it was proably more money and effort than I really am willing to deal with. Especially since I'm not expecting the number of members to be much over 10-20 at its height.

Just make a club on Myspace and limit it to you and your friends. It has a forum on it, is free, and has no pop up ads.

                Well, thats my suggestion.
