    SON OF A *****. (PS2 related)

the 1st player controller port on my PS2 is going nuts. no matter what controller I use, if it gets to the main PS2 menu theres a 70 percent chance of it using random button commands (triangle -> circle seems to be the most common), and a 20 percent chance of it only accepting D-pad input, and 10 percent of actually letting me control the thing.

    so...

    SON OF A *****.

gonna see if I can swap the ports, as I never use the 2nd player port.

My controller forces my characters to walk in random directions, making completing any mega man game impossible.

I already had my PS2 taken to a friend who fixed it for free. Before I couldn't play any PSOne games, DVDs, or even half of my PS2 games. Now I can play 'em all with no sloppy mess!

Load times have improved too. I just hope it lasts until PS3 comes out.

I've had a problem with the first slot on our regular PS2. Sometimes I have to pull the controller cord out of the slot slightly to get it to work at all. I'm not sure what's going on with your port, but it might be worth messing with.

Valk, you don't need to replace the controller port, you need an excorcism.

Your first course of action should be unplugging it from the power source and sprinkling it with holy water and chanting "The power of Christ compells you". If it doesn't work, it's probably because you're worshipping the wrong god. Change religions and try again.

Seriously, I have no idea what to do, though.

I don't know where you are at, but there is a place close by me that will completely fix and tune up PS2's for about 20-40 bucks. I don't know if there is any place like that around you, but I would check out a few VG Mom and Pop shops (meaning small buisnesses, nothing corp. owned) and you might be able to get it for cheap. Better then having to fork out 150 for a new one.

yeah, there are places that will fix it, but I cant afford any amount of money for repair costs. so I'm just gonna open it up and see if I can swap the ports.

Am I the only person who's PSX and PS2 never malfunctions?
