Sony Gearing Up For Online Superservice

Sony's starting it's plan of attack in a big way. It turns out that we've been had; they're actually setting up an online service to rival XBox Live, going on a "full-on assault".

Granted, it will take a while for them to do this, but who knows what's going on at the empire of blue potato shoguns?

The onlything that could make it better than Xbox Live, was if it was free. Other than that, what can they do thats better?

Live already has no lag(most of the time), IM, talking with people, buddy lists, custom soundtracks, blah, blah, blah......

All they can really do is match it, but itwould just be Sonys version.

Perhaps he's implying that it's because it's from Sony.

am i the only person not completely overjoyed by the possibility of being able to continue to pay to play games after i've already purchased them?

cause i often feel like i am. all these online services they charge you money for just don't interest me.

My argument is that if Live already offers everything.

And Sony can only hope to match Live (which offers everything).

Why would you to the most popular console company in the world offering everything?

Yeah, Sony should've had this in place long ago, but it seems they didn't expect anyone else to have better online play.

Sony's online could be far better than Microsoft's. First, they need incentive, then an actual plan that's affordable to gamers while offering many quirks, such as say, game soundtrack extracton.

I was confused by the whole announcing it at E3 and then backing out but apparently that was a fake out or something. Anyway, I'm glad they're doing this. It's one of the deciding factors of me wanting a PS3. Having a different screen name and password for every game was annoying. Now the only thing to worry about is the price. 360 is actually more appealing to me in some ways but I just don't think there'll be nearly as many games I want as on PS3.

The one thing that's really cool about Xbox Live, on 360 at least, is that you can see who else is playing even if they're playing an offline game. I really don't know if that's the one thing that requires you to pay for the service though. Nintendo WFC is basically doing the same thing that Xbox Live does for free. It's just peer to peer gaming. That's aside from downloadable content like XLA games which you have to pay for on both. I think it's best to keep these services free 'cause you're always going to have to pay subscription services for stuff like MMORPGs.

I really don't think there's anything about XBL that makes Microsoft have to charge for it. They just choose to because they can. But I doubt Sony would do theirs for free, if anything it'll be the same fee as XBL. Or if they get all full of themselves (as usual) and think whatever extra features they throw in are worth it they might charge more. Big N's the only one going out of their way to do things for free and make their consoles affordable over pumping them full of tech that most people will have no use for.
