    Pokemon 10th Anniversary

Love it for it's addictiveness, surprisingly deep mechanics and team building strategies or hate it for the same reasons and/or for it's characters, unremarkable anime and popularity, Nintendo's license to print money is officially 10 years old, and isn't showing any signs of slowing down, especially with all the new non-canon spinoffs and Diamond and Pearl on the horizon, which Game Freak plans on making take advantage of every last one of the DS' features, including NWC and GBA-to-DS game trading.

Does anyone have any amusing Pokemon-related stories to tell?

    God Bless you Pokemon.

Oh yea, people would steal others Pokemon cards in gym class while no one was in the locker room.

One nerdy guy got beat up pretty bad when he tried getting his back.

I was really pissed to find Pokemon Red only had one save file.

I was really pissed to find out that you could only run into Mewtwo once.

I eventually started another game and got him.

Back in the days of Red and Blue, everyone I knew used Gamesharks to get infinite amounts of Rare Candies to raise their Pokemon to level 100 while fighting nary a battle, but I was the only one who obsessively raised my Pokemon to level 100 the honorable way. This was before everyone knew the exact mathematicaly formulas for calculating how Pokemon stats worked, so each of my Pokemon's stats were about +60 higher than all of my friends'. I felt like all of my hard work had paid off, even if I didn't understand how.

Now there are no more mysteries. It's like the difference between 1) watching Street Fighter II as a kid and being blown away just to see Blanka use his Electricity attack and 2) having memorized all of the Street Fighter move lists.

You could've waited for the American version like the rest of us.

I jest. It's a terrific way to build vocabulary and the game's really fun.

IS there an American version on its way?

                      Re: Pokemon 10th Anniversary

i found an old nintendo power talking about the "wacky" japanese game "pocket monsters", and how they didn't know if it would ever come to the states. oh the hilarity.

i enjoyed the pokemon games, thankfully before they became popular. i belive i was able to eventually get all 150. and yes, i saved my master ball for mewtwo. easiest battle in the whole game

i also enjoyed them showing the cartoon, once again before it became popular. they'd show it at six or so in the morning. and, amazingly, they didnt chop it up to add unintended commercial breaks.

i've always enjoyed the gameboy games. but not much else. hard to belive it's been ten years. GOD I'M ****ING OLD!

it's only been eight years since the american version. alright i feel less old.

                        "........lemme play it!"

                          Re: Pokemon 10th Anniversary

The first time I played through Pokemon Blue, I used my MasterBall on Zapdos and immediately ran after encountering Mewtwo due to the fact that his level intimidated me, saving afterwards.

I was not the brightest player at the time.

But I did win Pokemon League Summer Training Tour '99. That was fun. Shame I wasn't picked to fight the Gym Leader in the random drawing.

They made us say "Pika Pika" sometimes. Those parts were embarrasing.

EDIT: gray: I remember that article. In retrospect, that was pretty something.

                              Re: Pokemon 10th Anniversary

Dave got pokemon red after seeing a commercial where all the pokemon got on a bus. Then he got me a GB color and blue shortly after. He thought he was pretty good at the time, so we decided to raise our guys for a few months and have the battle to end all battles.

He lost the first round because I used mewtwo, and he didn't have one. So I left mewtwo off the next roster and fought him again, this time smashing him up with a Wigglytuff and a Snorlax. It was pretty funny.

We imported silver and gold, but I lost interest after that.
