    Weapon names

I'm having trouble thinking of names for weapons. There are several types of weapons used in the game, swords, greatswords, daggers, bows, and staffs.

I'm having no trouble with naming the swords, greatswords, and daggers, and am categorizing them by crafting materials: copper, iron, and steel. I'm not sure, however how to approach bows and staffs.

The basic idea is to represent three levels of technological sophistication.

    Any help will be appreciated.

In the game I'm currently working on, the lead character is a samurai. For his katanas, I'm using ordinary words and romanizing them into Japanese. I'm also doing the same with the place names. For example, the Siraisu is simply "slice" but it sure sounds cooler.

Admittedly you could just simply use Copper Bow, Iron Bow, etc, but that's far too unoriginal. I'd try looking up ancient weapons history and see what they're called. You might get some good names that way. Old D&D books or other fantasy rpg manuals are generally loaded with good weapon names.

Short Bow, Long Bow, Composite Bow, Elven Bow, Hunter's Bow are a few good ones, if you want to keep with the materials, you could go with diffrent types of wood.

Pine, Cherry, Mohagany, Bamboo, Particle Board, Plywood.. Have fun with it. I actually named my bows after things to do with the game itself, like one bow is called the "Guardian HeartString." Or something like that.

Hmm let's see i've have some ideas which i'm using but i hope they help.

Swords: Be warned some of these are custom names and from other games.

ShieldBreaker (also can be used as a daggers name)
              DE Sword (Double Edged Sword)
              Quickness
              Cresent Blade
              Hundred Sword

              Daggers: Same Rule Applies
              AP Knife (Armor Piercing
              Mage Masher
              Beast Dagger
              Pocket Knife

I hope this somewhat helps you out.

                Re: Weapon names

Creating names for items and equipment certainly is difficult, since you're essentially coming up with several different names for what is pretty much the same kind of equipment.
"What if like...there was an exact copy of you somewhere, except they're the opposite gender, like you guys could literally have a freaky friday moment and nothing would change. Imagine the best friendship that could be found there."

True, but it would be better than say, sword 1, sword 2, so on and so forth... Usually I give a weapon an effect, so for example a Venomstaff can cause poison with a successful hit.

                    Re: Weapon names

I find that names for weapons can be difficult to come up with. Expecially, if you want to make all of your weapon names original (that is what I try to do, but often fail.)

Here are some weapons I've used, I hope they help.

                    Sweet Death (dagger)
                    Dragoon Edge (dagger)
                    Lion's Tooth (dagger)
                    Galakolia (cursed sword)
                    Final Dream (broadsword)
                    Axcalibur (holy ax)
                    Lancermune (lance)
                    Omega Black (glove)
                    Nirvana (staff)
                    Radical Dreamer (bow)
                    Enzirefencer (evil sword of time)
                    Soul Eater (small sword)
                    Loveless (small sword)
                    Cutting Edge (katana)
I had to change accounts. I'm here now - http://www.pavilionboards.com/forum/member.php?u=1475

                      Re: Weapon names

                      Um...

You could make sure each city which sells it's own weapons has their name attached to that type of weapon.

You could look up foreign words and use them as prefixes for the weapons.

You could use crazy Western-Fantasy names like "Flayer of Evil" and "Orcslayer" and other D&D crap like that.

There are tons of things you can do, just be consistent.

                          Re: Weapon names

If I'm able to create my game with everything I want for it, there will be racially-based equipment, like elven bows, which will be particularly effective against dwarven enemies, and holy swords, which are strong against the undead, just to name a couple. I don't have much trouble with magical and special equipment names (the ideas are appreciated, though ).

The idea is that the player can help a country develop, and as part of that process, the player unlocks new equipment stores, each with a new level of technology. The average merchant in this country doesn't have access to much magical and special equipment nor means to create such equipment.

I forgot about composite bows, though. I'm mainly unsure if I should make metal bows part of the world. I wish there were crossbow-type weapons built into RPGM3, then I could go short bow, long bow, Comp. short bow, comp. long bow, light x-bow, heavy x-bow. Maybe I'll go that route anyway. :/

As for staffs, I think it's probably safest to go with different types of wood, probably Oak, Tique, and Mahogany.

I'm grateful for the help. Keep them ideas rollin.
