    Drug Searched

Yesterday, after work, my wife and I decided to pick up our friend and go out to eat. We were very hungry. We didn't get to eat until much later though, because some cops decided to pull us over.

We were going 5 miles under the speed limit. My wife was driving. There was no minimum speed limit posted.

They made my wife get out of the car, and then they harrassed all of us. They asked why we are in the area very rudely, as if we weren't supposed to be in Clarkston. We came from Pontiac. More questions followed, like where we were going, why were were in the area, why we are going there, then they started asking us how much weed we smoked (we are all sober!!!) and looked for drugs and alcohol, which we don't bother with.

We were interrogated for at least a half hour, and get this, after the first cop car came, two more arrived and one of them had a drug dog. They didn't let the dog out of their car though, but he was ready, nonetheless.

We didn't get a ticket or anything at all, but there is no damned law against going 40mph in a 45 mph zone, especially when there were no cars around at all!

Violated, we went to enjoy some food at last.

You should have asked them if they had reasonable cause to pull you over and you should have asked for a reason why they wanted to search you and your vehicle. If they give you none the politely ask them to leave. If they say "they suspect you of carrying drugs" ask them under what grounds. If they don't have just cause they cannot pull you over and search you for no reason. I believe that is a United States law.

It is, and if they illegally search you and find anything, if you fight you are most likely going to get it thrown away considering it was an illegal search off no warrant.

Did they have a search warrant? You should have asked them for one, or told them to get the hell out of your sight or they'll have a lawsuit.

A friend of mine was harassed and hauled into jail, and strip searched. He was asked to lift up his nuts and the cops stared at his ass crack. Reason? Just for speeding.

So what business did the cops have for doing that? He had a license, no drugs. He even paid the fine.

Speaking of cops, I have *lots* of negative experience with cops. Cops doing very illegal/stupid things and getting caught and getting away with it. I don't feel safe around the cops in this country. I was once told "If you don't trust the cops, you may as well call a crack head when something goes wrong." In all honesty, I'd be more inclined trust the crack head to take care of the problem. That's how bad things are.

Cops driving drunk and hitting my step mom's truck parked on the side of the street, cops shooting innocent people with 'non-lethal' weapons, cops pulling out someone for the apparent felony of DWB, 'driving while black' and shooting them point blank when they were unarmed and complied with the cops' demands, cops still driving drunk with one driving on the opposite side of the median on an interstate and crashing into another cop head on at 100+ MPH, killing them, cops selling cocaine to minors and THEN not getting punished but moved to another district and get to keep their job, cops shooting 16 year olds because they had unloaded BB guns, cops beating a wheelchair bound man, cops pulling over my dad for speeding and slapping cuffs on him hurting his wrist that had surgery on it, only to take the cuffs off, and put them on tighter after he complained causing damage that kept him from working for weeks, cops not allowing kids to ride their bikes because the speed trap they set up in my neighborhood has caused casualties from cops smashing into cars and pedestrians after chasing down someone for running a stop sign that is covered with a tree branch that is NOT visible(I've seen cop cars fly buy my house at 60+ in a 25 with sirens blaring, and it occurs about every 30 minutes because this is a busy street that many people unfamiliar with the area cross), cops cursing people out and harassing them for cutting said tree branch, cops yelling racial slurs at my step mom(She's black) and pulling her over for no reason just to harass her, drunk cops staggering out of convenient stores trying to get into someone else's car only to stagger and trip spilling hot coffee all over themselves and later trying to sue the convenient mart...

Not all cops are bad, in fact I'd say the majority are ok, but the number of screw-ups in law enforcement is way too much for comfort. It's a far bigger portion than people would think. I do not feel safe around them given my experiences with them. As a whole, the police force is corrupt, oppressive, irrational, racist, just plain stupid, and in drastic need of reform, despite that there are good people composing the majority of law enforcement. Its just that there are too many screw ups, probably about 20-30% of all cops in my city, and it really makes them not so trustworthy.

the cops in my area are actually really nice and usualy pretty fair.
"At first it just looked like a picture of a bunch of lily pads, but then I started scraping at it with my pocket knife and the whole painting just sort of spoke to me," Schmidt said. "For the first time, I finally understand what Monet was trying to get across in her work."

I agree everything everyone has said. My wife and I are wondering what we can do to pursue this. What can we do? I mean, they ruined what was supposed to be a fun-filled kickass night of going to random stores and eating as much as we can hold. We still did all of this, but we didn't have as much fun as we intended...

                        Re: Drug Searched

Drunk cops? People have tried and complained many times. A court case has never been successful. The city likes to rig the court room in cases like this.

The drunk cops crashing into cars for example, the city's solution? In my neighborhood people aren't allowed to park on the streets anymore! That way the cops won't crash into cars while speeding and drunk. This has lead to many problems. Since many driveways only hold one or two cars and most houses have three or four cars, people have started parking in their yards and destroying their lawns. The city turns around and fines them due to breaking ordinances that don't allow you to park your car on your lawn. My step mom parks one of her trucks in a Dollar General parking lot so none of our cars have to be parked on the lawn. I'm surprised it hasn't gotten towed.

People are complaining, and nothing is being done. The courts always side with the city or the cops.

I figure as much. I wish I had a cop in my family, so the cops can be biased the right way.

                            True story.

My friends mom borrowed their neighbors car because theiers broke down. She had to go across canadian/american border to go into Seatle.

They pulled her over and told her to get out of the car. Im guessing its license plate came up with a warrent out or something.

They find 6 pounds of weed in the trunk. Jeez, didnt that look nice with her crossing the border and everything. Long story short, she got strip searched, car got stripped down to the frame. She eventually was able to make them relize that it was her neighbors car, so they checked into it, busted her neighbor, she gets out of there, blah blah blah.

Sounds like thats how they'd treat any drug filled car. BUT, she was saying that when the cops first found the weed in the trunk, she actually heard them talking about splitting it up between each other.

Ive also had my own experiance with cops. Not being stripped naked or anything, but it was unpleasent nontheless.

I'm am torn because I've had both good and bad run-ins with the law. Unfortunately, most of them have been bad. I'm never looking to start any trouble, nor am I out breaking the law. Still, if they have nothing better to do, they will bother me, and have done so may times in the past.

Austin police are better than the cops in SA, but not by much. They usually don't hassle me, but then again, I'm white. Here is an example of how they respond to local businesses burning to the ground:
                              http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/03/06/fir....ap/index.html

I get to hear about all their troubles in the news nearly every week. It's not often they make the front page of CNN.com.
