    Powerbook G4

Anyone know a good place to buy a Powerbook G4? Apple store has them for $1500, $2000 and $2500. I'm debating dropping the $2500 for a 17inch but that'd be rediculous for carrying around and such.

I got a 12", and it's one of the best purchases I've made. I got it at the apple store through some "by a laptop, get an ipod" deal. They usually give student discounts, too.

Though you may be able to find a deal on a used one, since many people are moving to the (Intel) MacBookPro. Try techbargains.com. I don't go there, but my old roommate would never stop talking about it.

Why not get one o' those Intel laptops? They can do PC stuff.

The G4 powerbook is the system of choice for people working in the film industry. I don't know if the Intel ones have the same rep. I suppose I should find out but I'm doing seat of my pants research right now.

          My 2 cents:
I shall never understand why Macs are supposedly better than PCs in video/picture editing. We use Macs at our school for said reasons and they're slow as hell, have this unnecessary minimize/maximize layout animation and the buttons have a terribly small hit location to click on, even at a low resolution.
That causes problems while working with folders and organizing files.
With a windows comp it'll be much faster to work with.

They also have compatibility problems with files, crash even while trying to open a simple word document and the shortcut keys are a joke.

Yep. To me, those macs act like "My First Computer" products which you really can't do anything with except use as a paperweight.. Oh.. and that awesome 1 mouse button, with a huge button hit area where you can't even rest your hand on in fear of pressing it.

Nope. Staying with PCs now and forever. Just had too much negative experience with Macs.
Simply put: If you're a slow worker and never worked with a PC before, get a Mac.

          Did a comparison:
My 4 year old 1 Ghz windows Intel laptop was much, much faster and stable than the 1Ghz apple computers they have today.
